a bill but its only worth it if you have XP,
Vista/7 drivers are only compatible with DAWs (via whatever the Digidesign protocol is and ASIO)

For those on a Mac, can't go past the Apogee gear. Brilliant AD/DA conversion. Have previously owned a Duet and it was quality, though no MIDI interface and a lack of inputs. Can be a bit pricey too.

For a cheaper alternative with more I/O, you can look at the Presonus Firestudio Mobile. Have heard good things about it, and will be adding one to my bedroom studio in a month or so.

I have a Digidesign Rack 003+ Factory which I use with Pro Tools 8.

I highly recommend Spectrasonics Stylus RMX (in Pro Tools you can drag the beats onto an instrument track, and then utlilise the sound(s) you like where you like in the piano roll). Alongside this Trilian is excellent for creating bass.

I'd also strongly recommend TRacks 3 Deluxe. It does rape CPU on PC's (I recently moved to a MacPro 8 Core which was the best move I ever made so it is fine on there).

Can I slightly go against this thread?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I recall Grime being made with the bare minimum... hence the reason it used to sound so good when it first started, it was so dark and stripped down!

    All I use is my:

    Toshiba Satellite Laptop (VERY powerful)
Laptop Microphone (to record crackle in an empty space as I don't have a record player)
    Cubase 5 (Legit Copy)
    NI Massive
    Shitloads of Drum Hits
    Rob Papen Albino
    and loads of freebie VST's...
    That's all I need!

Why would you want a pristine, clean sound for an "underground genre" ? It's supposed to be dirty/dark... I think sometimes people forget the roots of this genre but I'm sure some of you will (like me) not move on from the old school sound... albeit, only a minority.

Just a thought people for if you are looking for equipment... A composer/producer isn't good for the kit he/she uses, it's what they can do with what they have

It's expensive, but the most powerful laptop around at he moment... Have a look at the Toshiba Satellite range, I've got one and it runs so nicely.
