Villa thought to be chasing spurs £10million rated midfielder Jermaine Jenas, they are alos weighing up a £10 million bid for David Bentley and tracking Tom Huddlestone along with Fulham and Bolton.

The Reds are also set to miss out on their top summer target - Valencia's Spanish midfielder David Silva - because of the budget constraints imposed on manager Rafael Benitez, with Real Madrid favourites to land the player.

Man Utd target Lyon forward Karim Benzama as a replacement for Man City bound Carlos Tevez.

AC Milan are ready to rival Real for the signing of Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo as a replacement for Kaka, should the Brazilian move to Madrid.

Barcelona plan to capitalise on the financial problems at Liverpool with a £20m raid for Argentine midfielder Javier Mascherano.

Hull manager Phil Brown is keen to sign Manchester United strike-dup Manucho and Frazier Campbell, both of whom have had recent loan spells at the KC Stadium.

EDIT: If you don't mind Good-Fella, I'm going to introduce one rule for this thread.

When listing a rumour, name the source. If it was something you saw in a newspaper, then state the newspaper and the day you saw it. If it was on the net, give a hyperlink.

Middlesbrough are resigned to the departures of Ross Turnbull and Stewart Downing. Keith Lamb, Middlesbrough’s chief executive, confirmed that Downing could leave when he recovers from a foot injury. The winger could be back before the end of the transfer window, so would be expected to interest Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. Turnbull has turned down a number of contract offers from Middlesbrough. The goalkeeper, who made 22 appearances in the Barclays Premier League last term, has been linked to Chelsea. “They were exceptional offers. I am at a loss to see why he is going,” Lamb said.

Andrea Dossena, the Liverpool defender, has said that he could leave the club this summer because of a lack of opportunities, just one year after he moved from Udinese for £7 million. “It has been an important experience,” he said. “I’ve learnt English and I’ve compared myself at a different and high level of football. But I would like to have more opportunities \. And I’ve spoken about it with [Rafael] Benítez. We agreed to find a common solution.”

Cristian Zapata, the Udinese defender, has claimed that Arsenal are among the clubs interested in signing him this summer. He made 17 league starts last season and has four years left on his contract. “Juventus, Fiorentina, Milan, Arsenal and Villarreal have requested information about me,” Zapata said. “If a good offer arrives, then Udinese will have to consider it.”

Andrés Vasquez has said that he has been offered a contract by Stoke City after the midfield player was released by FC Zurich. The 21-year-old first attracted attention when he scored his first league goal for Gothenburg with an unusual chip from outside the area two years ago.

Aston Villa and Fulham are monitoring the progress of Vadim Demidov, the Rosenborg and Norway defender. The 22-year-old was born in Latvia, and his father was a handball player for the Soviet Union. He can also play the holding role in midfield. Birmingham City offered Gary McSheffrey in a bid to sign Scott Dann, but Coventry City want £4 million in cash for the defender.

David Silva has said that he is flattered by Real Madrid’s interest in him after his agents held talks at the Bernabéu on Thursday. The forward, who is also wanted by Liverpool, is expected to leave Valencia because of their financial situation. “That a team like Real Madrid are interested is good for Valencia and for me,” he said.

Manchester City are monitoring Matthew Upson’s contractual developments. The defender has been in talks to extend his deal beyond the two years he has left but no agreement has been found. Aston Villa are also in need of a central defender.

Uh-huh.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has told club sporting director Jorge Valdano to negotiate with Valencia for star duo David Silva and David Villa, but not to pay over €20m and €25m for the pair respectively. Silva is also wanted by Liverpool, whilst Villa is a reported target for Chelsea. (Marca)

Dossenna will go on a cut price.

Liverpool made most of their transfers straight after the season ended, and look what happened, most of purchases dudded.

What Ive heard is Maloudas getting shipped back, Shevchenko aint gonna be 1st choice surely, Drogbas not getting younger and then Anelka. With Joe Cole coming ack though I suppose that system could still be used, but you dunno with Ancoletti.

Even if Villa wanted to go Liverpool, Rafas a pussy he wouldnt play Torress, Villa and Gerrard at the same time.

0957 BST: Manchester City are being linked with Peruvian forward Roberto Merino, a player nicknamed 'the Maradona of the Andes'.

Tottenham have offered David Bentley plus £8m for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young. (would be extremely happy with that...downside is the story is from the sun so it holds no weight)

Barcelona plan to capitalise on the financial problems at Liverpool with a £20m raid for Argentine midfielder Javier Mascherano.

England winger Stewart Downing can leave Middlesbrough if the club receive an acceptable offer according to club chief executive Keith Lamb. - Dumb thing to say guy is injured for 6 months plus he's shit.

West Ham have targeted full-backs, Rennes' France international Rod Fanni and Middlesbrough's Matthew Bates, as replacement's for Lucas Neill, who has rejected a new one-year deal at Upton Park.

Hull manager Phil Brown is keen to sign Manchester United strike-dup Manucho and Frazier Campbell, both of whom have had recent loan spells at the KC Stadium.

The problem for Wenger is, is that everyone is backing him because he hasn't spent money. As soon as he starts spending, anything other than a May-ending title challenge along with FA-Cup and CL Semis is a massive failure.

Wenger spending and failing would be the beginning of the end.

Name rings a bell from Football Manager never seen him play. Provided he can deal with long balls and head the ball well, he'll be okay I guess.

How you gonna expect to take Juve's best defender, Arsenal are very ambitious it seems.

Why not? We're in just a good a shape as Juve are. Despite them coming second in the league (based on head-to-head with Milan) we picked up a similar number of points - in a league everyone else seems to think is more competitive - and we are more of a force in Europe. They also sacked a manager this season.

Sometimes I wish Arsenal would be a bit ungentlemanly and unsettle the player a bit. It's bait that we asked, Juve said no and we left it at that.

i dont think he is wot we need he is too short we need a tall powerful defender like hangeland for our defence, im not sure wot wenger is thinking? knowing him as well this will be our "big" signing of the summer.

If Wenger is hell bent on playing 4-5-1 still, nothing wrong with having a midfield of Fabregas, Alonso and Toure. The latter is most important type of signing though.

Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen has claimed he is poised to complete a move to Arsenal.

With Gunner boss Arsene Wenger admitting he needs to strengthen his defence over the summer, the Belgium international has been tipped as a likely target.

And a switch to Emirates Stadium could be completed before the end of the week, with the 23-year old confirming further discussions are due to take place.

Reports suggest a fee of around £11million has been agreed for Vermaelen, who can operate in the centre of defence or at left-back.

Challenge
Vermaelen told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad: "Moving to Arsenal is the right path for me.

"It is a great sporting challenge and I will also be financially better off. I think everything is going to be OK.

"In the coming days there will be more talks."

But Gunners legend Tony Adams has warned Wenger against splashing out on Vermaelen, who stands at 5ft 11ins.

Small one
Adams fears that the Frenchman's top target lacks the height required to dominate in the Premier League and believes he has been playing at an inferior level.

Adams told the Daily Mirror: "Thomas is a very good player but I don't think he's ready for the Arsenal.

"I don't think the punters at Arsenal would like another small one.

"I have been looking at the Dutch league, but it's been decimated. It's a poor league at the moment, there's one or two players, but they're leaving too early as we

AC Milan playmaker Kaka has undergone a medical in Brazil at the request of Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants are looking to strengthen their squad over the summer and have been linked with several of the world's top players since Florentino Perez took over as president.

Kaka is among their top targets and Milan have admitted it could be difficult to keep him during the transfer window.

Rossoneri owner Silvio Berlusconi is set to speak with Kaka in an effort to persuade him to stay but a world-record move to the Santiago Bernabeu is expected to go through.

Such a switch has now moved a step closer with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirming that Kaka has had a medical.

The 27-year-old, who has previously been linked with Premier League clubs, is currently in his homeland on international duty.

A statement on the CBF website read: "The technical committee of the Brazilian national team attended the request of Kaka and the board of Real Madrid and released the player to perform the routine examinations in a clinic in Recife.

"The CBF had to make all the arrangements for the test through its Medical Department head Jose Luiz Runco, who accompanied the player during the tests."

Kaka will link up with his Brazil team-mates for training before holding a press conference later in the day when an announcement could be made.

Brazil face Paraguay in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday after beating Uruguay 4-0 over the weekend.

Kaka scored the fourth goal from the penalty spot after being felled in the area.

Why do Chelsea want Johnson? Bosingwa has been sick at Chelsea i thought

Bosingwa has done really well. There's whispers of Munich being interested in him and vice versa though.

Johnson should never have been sold, but I doubt that we're actually interested I'd say it's between Liverpool and City, and seeing as the recurring theme for his move is "Champions League" 'Pool are most likely.

having taken too long to offer carlos tevez a permanent contract, manchester united are set to lose the argentine regardless of what they bid - even with the sale of cristiano ronaldo freeing up vast sums of money.

After an array of big clubs forwarding their interest in the pint-sized striker, the list had refined itself to just a couple of candidates, with manchester city being the favourites.

However, news of the world now reports that chelsea have spoken to kia joorabchian - tevez's agent - hopeful that their last-ditch attempt to intervene will see the 25-year-old relocate to london.

Tevez himself has admitted that he wishes to stay in the premier league, but has also stated that he does not wish to uproot his settled family from the north west.

In spite of this, it's public knowledge at this point that absurd amounts of money are being thrown around in order to sign the big names, and roman abramovich is no stranger to forking out when it is deemed necessary.

If abramovich can match the striker's £100,000-a-week wage demands and improve on the £30 million valuation placed on the player, a move to the blues may not be completely out of the question for tevez.

Would like Tevez and have wanted him since Mourinho went to see him play a couple games for Boca or Cruizero (I think) but don't see it happening.

I still think he'll stay at United tbh.

Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna is 'not against' the idea of joining Real Madrid this summer.

Sagna has emerged as the latest player to be linked with a move to the Spanish club as part of president Florentino Perez's bid to build a world-class side.

On Monday, Sagna's Gunners team-mate and French compatriot Gael Clichy moved to dampen suggestions he could be set for a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, defender Sagna, who signed a new long-term deal with the Gunners last June, has failed to rule out moving to Real.

He told Aujourd'hui "I am surprised and I don't know anything, but I am not against the idea.

"I was keen to resume with Arsenal, but we will see."

Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen has claimed he will undergo a medical at Arsenal on Friday ahead of his proposed move to the Premier League.

Reports have strongly linked Vermaelen with a switch to the Gunners in recent weeks, although manager Arsene Wenger has yet to comment on the speculation.

The Belgium international's agent recently suggested an agreement was close, with a four-year contract said to be on the table.

Vermaelen has explained how he plans to head to North London at the end of this week as he looks to tie up a reported £10million switch.

"The signature is not there yet, but everything is in order," Vermaelen told Gazet van Antwerpen.

Delighted
"On Friday I will fly to London to undergo a medical. Then I hope to sign."

He continued: "I feel so proud. Arsenal is a fantastic club, and as a child I watched them play.

"On Friday, if I go to Emirates Stadium I will be seriously impressed.

"This will be a big change in my life, next year I will suddenly be facing the best strikers in the world.

"This does not scare me, I will give everything my body has.

Bayern Munich have admitted to making an approach for Chelsea full-back Jose Bosingwa.

The German giants have indentified the rampaging Portuguese defender as a top priority in their search for fresh faces this summer.

An agreement is yet to be struck with his current employers, but Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is hoping an accord can be reached.

"We are holding talks, but we still need the approval of Chelsea," he told Kicker.

"He is one of the best right full-backs around."

Bayern are in the market for a right-back after seeing Willy Sagnol forced into retirement and Massimo Oddo fail to shine during a loan spell from AC Milan.

According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mail, Philippe Senderos may be used as a make-weight as Arsenal step-up their pursuit of Fiorentina's Felipe Melo.

It was reported on Wednesday that the Gunners are interested in acquiring the services of 25-year-old Melo this summer.

Apparently, manager of the north London outfit, Arsene Wenger, has been casting his eye over the combative midfielder for the past three years.

It was claimed that Arsenal were readying an offer of €17.7 million (£15m) in the hope of landing the five-time capped Brazil international, who is currently with the Selecao at the Confederations Cup.

However, it seems that the Viola may insist that 24-year-old centre-back Philippe Senderos is included in any potential deal.

Having fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, the 31-time capped Switzerland international spent last season on loan at Milan, and it appears that his performances attracted the attention of the Gigliati.

It is thought that Senderos would welcome a return to Italy for the 2009-10 campaign and it is suggested that Fiorentina may be willing to cash-in on Melo.

Chelsea have matched Liverpool's bid for England star Glen Johnson.

Portsmouth accepted a £17.5million bid from Liverpool earlier this week and the 24-year-old looked set to seal a move to Anfield.

However, Pompey chief Peter Storrie has confirmed the club have also now agreed terms with Chelsea - Johnson's former club.

The in-demand full-back now has a decision to make, with both sides keen to tie up a deal this week.

"The matter will come to a conclusion at the beginning of next week. I do not have a preference over the move, it is up to Glen," Storrie said.

"The deals are almost identical so it really is down to him and what club he prefers, which one is going to pay him more money.

"Glen wants to play regularly in the Champions League, he has got himself back in the England side so I understand that. Sometimes you have to be fair to players."

Storrie admits that Johnson needs to be playing Champions League football next season in order to secure his place in Fabio Capello's starting XI - with the World Cup finals now less than 12 months away.

"It's a big year for him with the World Cup coming up," he continued.

"Playing Champions League football will make him an even better player than he is today."

Senderos should have sent last season on loan at West Brom, Newcastle or Spurs. Anywhere where the expectations aren't so high that would allow him to familiarise himself with a whole season of competitive football.

The problem for him is at 18 - 21 you could let it slide, but he's 24 now or something?

in all seriousness, he should have stayed in the PL if he was going on loan but to a lower/mid league club to just get the experience.

Woodgate and King are imo in the top 6 or 7 centre halves in the country but they are never fit so that renders them almost useless.

That said, Senderos is no worse than Dawson. People forget that minus Drogba and Hyppia getting the run on him, he hasn't been too bad. He was a lynchpin in the defence that went on to the CL final and held the record for longest period without conceeding. He is just fragile mentally.

woodgate played most league games this season, and king managed 24 (including most of the second half of the season) so I wouldnt call them uselss. just think, both have played more league games than eduardo and rosicky, and probably king played a similar amount to your beloved theo.

it isnt just drogba and hyypia who have raped senderos. My problem with him is the amount of errors he makes in his general play. poor backpasses, ball watching, being caught out of position, not following his man. a player that makes that many lapses shouldnt be playing in a top club side.

Rosicky and Eduardo have had a bad 18 months with injury. Eduardos was a freak injury and the injuries since have been knock ons. If he has the same issues this coming season then we can talk but until then nope.

King/Woodgate have had these issues for YEARS. I remember Woodgate feigning an injury against us when he was at Madrid and we battered them at their place.

Theo was playing for us in the league, fa cup and europe. He had about 3 months out, but other than that was pretty much an ever present.

Eagle

still the fact remains that king and woodgate played more games than eduardo and rosicky, yet you feel the need to write them off as "almost useless". despite rosicky trying a come back and eduardo supposedly being fit in january.

if we're talking about feigning injuries, id suggest you look at your own team. i seem to remember a certain incident featuring eboue and gilberto (if my memory serves me correctly) where they ran into each other, feigned injury, then were suddenly fine. good job we played on.

but anyway, the point was transfer speculation, and i still maintain my original point that senderos isnt good enough for arsenal.

still the fact remains that king and woodgate played more games than eduardo and rosicky, yet you feel the need to write them off as "almost useless". despite rosicky trying a come back and eduardo supposedly being fit in january.

Eduardo was fit but he kept catching niggling injuries which were clearly the result of his body getting used to the strain of competitive football and training again.

Rosicky has had a nightmare, but claims he could have played last season. Like I said, they have had a bad 18 months, not a bad 3/4 years like King/Woodgate. If they don't bounce back next season they will be resigned to the scrap heap and got rid of.

i chose premiership games as a criteria as EVERY CLUB in the league plays 38 games. It is a fair stick to judge the players by, as their appearances arent based on being in a successful team, solely based on how good they are and how fit they have been for a season.

Anyway, the 2010 squad will be interesting. It's very bold to suggest a year in advance that a player who couldnt make the under 21 team last night is a dead cert to be going to the world cup
