JACK

apart from his experience (which isnt even all that keeping in mind his lack of concentration and conviction) hes gonna be the worst defender in the squad.

doubt it being real tho.

what? Silvestre is a good defender.

Quick, strong, good goind forward, ok in the air. If rio or vidic get injured, alex will regret it, Oshea or Brown aint as good in the middle

He used to be all those things, he's really shit nowadays.

.

I pray that we get him on the free transfer that Ferguson promised - I'd be pissed if we pay money for him. If he has a mini renaissance at Arsenal, fine. If not, having him as back up to Clichy isn't so bad I guess. It bolsters our squad and gives us another head with experience.

No Traore isn't. He's a very raw player and more of a left midfielder in my eyes atm.

I think the fact Silvestre can play at centre-back also appeals as well. I don't doubt that Wenger will find a way to get the best out of Silvestre. I just hope he isn't as swag as I remember him. He hasn't played in something like a year so I'm having my fingers crossed that he's been working hard in training - and he feels he has something to prove.

i dont understand wheres he gonna fit in?

Cookie, he's being signed for the bench. Not as one of the starting 11.

And there is something wrong with our back line. Toure and Gallas are our best defenders but they aren't the best pairing imo.

toure and gallas are too alike for me,

Fully agree.

In great centre-back pairings, you need the athletic/pacy defender and the no-nonsense bruiser. i.e. Ferdinand and Vidic

Gallas and Toure both fit in the first category, and sometimes we get openned up too easily by long balls though the middle (neither of them are particularly tall). I think Arsenal's best pairing is Toure/Gallas and Senderos.

Despite other Arsenal's fans dislike for Senderos, I think he's vital to Arsenal's future Championship hopes. Due to his lack of pace, he is the sort of defender that will become better with experience just like Tony Adams or John Terry. He definitely heading in the right direction, he just needs to sort out his concentration issues.

For those laughing at me thinking I'm chatting bullshit. Senderos had an extended run in the team when Toure was away at the ACN. In those games, Arsenal picked up 13 points our of 15 and conceded very few goals. In all those games Senderos played well and concentrated. Toure wasn't missed at all. Just a small showing of what the possibilities are if Senderos becomes the player he should do.

Do you not see Djourou as a better long term prospect for that roll? He has a lot of height & a bit more pace than senderos.

:dead:

Last season, Arsenal was not considered a threat, after the Henry saga. Liverpool was, which is why Fergie, properly did not want to shot Heinze to Liverpool.

This season, Liverpool have got stronger, Arsenal have got "weaker".

Senderos has shown much more "intelligence" on the pitch than Djourou has. And I don't think Djourou is "no-nonsense" enough yet. We'll see.

This season, Liverpool have got stronger, Arsenal have "stagnated".

Edited.

I was hoping that we'd get him for free. 750k isn't so bad I guess. Helps towards paying off United ridiculous debt I suppose. What I don't get is why Silvestre gets a 2 year deal, when Wenger wouldn't give Pires or Lauren a two year deal when they hit 31. Smakcs of double standards are irrates me a fair bit especially as Pires was and still is a very decent player.
