De Gea has dodgy all season theres no denying it, you dont sign a keeper for 20 mil if they' re not capable of the odd top save which is what hes done but overal hes looked a liability. On current form I'd have Chesney, Reina, Hart, Given, Jaaskelainen, Friedel over him

lol

What constitute's a shot btw?

Happens to be going on target and the keeper catches it? Keep only get's one hand on it? Doesn't count if he catches it?

Secondly, De Gea has made 19 more saves than both Reina and Woijean Schnezhy (worst name ever to spell) - why is that? Does that mean he's had to face more shots?

Does this take into account Cech being unable to "save" Van Persie's one on one? Isn't that more John Terry's fault than Cech?

Vorm is the best keeper on form IMO.

De Gea isn't the best keeper in the prem tho so the list means nothing lol.

He may have saved 50 shots (no doubt most of them being scuffed shots or shots straight at him) but he doesn't command is area well at all, he punches a lot of crosses that could be caught and he's cost United a few goals this season.

The stats in the list make up like 30% of a goalkeepers attributes.

De Gea is definitely not the best keeper.

For all the gas we get about Carroll, nigh on £20m for a goal keeper is pretty jokes - I guess its more to do with the fact that if he works out, per year his cost is very little in FFP terms.

Infact, you could even make the argument that De Gea cost more than Carroll based on the average price for each position -but I'll stop there before I get shouted down!

Scrappy123

De Gea may not be the best keeper and imo he isn't the best keeper, but those stats at least show, he is no where near the calamity the media and opposition fans usually make him out to be.

Can Big 45 confirm that if a goalkeeper came on in the 90th minute and made one save, catching it, therefore having a 100% shots to save ratio, no shots parried into danger, he would therefore be the best goalkeeper in the league?

Cech is the best keeper in the league still tbh, he's had a couple of bad games this season but it's mainly down to our defence.

De Gea is poor, the kinda keeper that if he was in my team i'd be nervous and trust me, we have David James when he was a calamity so we'd know.

As for best, it's not even biased but it's clearly Reina, also I would find it hard to put De Gea in the top 8.

Reina, Sces/wehisnameis, Cech, Vorm, Krul, Schwarzer, Friedel, Given and Hart and all better than him

Julio Cesar
11th December '11, 12:04 PM
Vorm is a good keeper but nowhere near as good as the likes of Reina and Hart IMO. Big bad Radek Cerny was the best keeper in the prem yesterday he was possessed Hij knows.

Note that Cech and Szczesny have made considerably less saves than De Gea, Hart and Vorm. For that reason their saves to shot ratio is incredibly skewed.

aint this a bitch about....

I don't know who is the best keeper & who is the worst, but, I'm personally happy with Cech in our goal, so much so that with this Courtois guy earning such rave reviews in Spain.. It's such a conundrum what to do as Cech is only 30, which should leave enough room for another 10 years at the top... Can't keep loaning out Courtois for 10 years.. but, Cech is still tops & better the devil you know.

De Gea is probably the best shot stopper in the Prem but he still doesn't command his box from crosses and corners which is a big thing in the Prem. I'm actually dreading when (if) he gets that right cos he'll be top class.

The difference in the last 2 matches was the ref though lol. De Gea saved you a point in the 3-3 but you would have lost anyway without the joke decisions.

Don't care about single games, I care about consistency when it comes to goalkeeping.

Hart has had some poor games e.g. Real Madrid and last night.

De Gea hasn't had a bad game like that yet this season. Granted he makes mistakes but they get picked up on because of the club he is at. He will improve though. I remember people saying the same shit about Casillas 12 years ago...

World Class kepeers are the ones where fans have to think long and hard to find a game where they let the team down. Speak to the Juve fans about Buffon, Real fans about Casillas, Chelsea fans about Cech...

His first season when he played for city, World class.
Second season (last year), World class.
2 full seasons, Even when he was at Birmingham he was still really really good.

This year he has made mistakes, But he will get better as will De Gea. They are both in their only 20s and keepers don't peak until their 30s.

Joey has become abit "cocky", Once he gets competition at both club and international level that will give him the kick up the arse he needs.

He is the best goalkeeper England have had since Seamen.

No one is World Class in their first season. They are simply an unknown quantity having an excellent season.

This is the season that will define Hart's rating. If this is a bad patch and he has a season like the last one from here on in, it'll be difficult to argue that he's not World Class tbh.

Every class goalkeeper has had a great number 2 of a similar age pushing them:

Seaman - Martyn (and arguably Flowers as well)

Casillas - Valdes (Not forgeeting that he was fighting Canizares for the number sport in the first place)

Khan - Lehmann

Buffon -Abbiati
