It was ok last year. Just lucky really to win the league.

But a 38 year old as our best midfielder atm? Nah, that isn't right.

Cleverley wasn't even a 1st team player this time last year, so we shouldn't be relying on him to fill the position even though he was playing well before picking up the injury. Anderson is up and down. Gibson = big meh. Fletcher hasn't been the same since his 'virus'.

The midfield tonight exposed how weak we really are.

Keane blamed United's early exit on the latest group of young players that Ferguson has introduced to the club. He said: "People have talked about the young players you've had Jones, Smalling, Young coming in, everybody building them up, but they've got a lot to do, it's a reality check for some. I'd be getting hold of some of those lads, saying, 'You'd better buck up your ideas.' I think their best player tonight was Ryan Giggs. That sums it up he's 37 or 38, you can't be depending on him."

Ferguson responded angrily when Keane's comments were relayed to him after the game, and made reference to his former midfielder's failure in management at Sunderland and Ipswich Town.

The United manager said: "I don't know why you are bringing this up from a television critic. Roy had an opportunity to prove himself as a manager and it's a hard job. We have enough good young players to see us through. I have every confidence in them. That is part of football. You have to deal with disappointment. It has been used as motivation at this club many times before. These young players will have to cope with it and get on with it in their careers."

Fair play to Ferguson, he absolutely deaded Keane with that.

his crossing was shocking and has being for weeks he gets the ball does the same shit stepover then crosses to a defenders head same with his corners any time he gets the ball u know whats gonna happen he should not be starting over valencia

yeah, young has been off-form recently. he isn't the problem though, he started the season well, he's a class player. honestly the knee-jerk reactions are a joke sometimes.

the blame lies within the centre of midfield. it's honestly tiring to even debate about this (not young, united being shit in general at the moment).

i would take him out and play valencia at the moment though i do agree. i just think you're being a little too harsh on young.

tbh Liverpool fans are the most humble out of our rivals, talk a lot of sense, view football in the broad spectrum and also are not afraid to compliment other teams. Hij reminds me of my friend Ben who also is very reasonable yet doesn't mind a bit of banter too - both are Liverpool fans and both talk a lot of sense when it comes to football. It also makes me less likely to through abuse at Liverpool too and rather just open up a decent discussion about football.

Of course, a few insults here and there never hurt anyone lol.

Sidenote: On the way to Cardiff for the Community Shield in 2006, Scousers had jumped on our Chelsea coach via Birmingham and I sat in the back with them and had the best laugh ever. When we got in to Cardiff and passed a post office the lads pointed to one of their mates and said " oh look so-and-so, you can go and get your dole before the game"

Good laugh and great sense of humour. I enjoy our rivalry with Liverpool, especially in the Mourinho/Benitez era.

Nah Phil Jones is that guy. He's been one of their best players imo. Future captain of club and country. Vidic is a blow, but they have just about enough to cope.

It'd be foolish to write Man Utd off. They've recovered from poor runs of form like this before and achieved success.

Ferguson imo, has to bring in the creative CM that everyone been banging on about. Maybe another CB on loan to cover for the loss of Vidic? And a loan striker?

Darren Fletcher takes break for health reasons

On behalf of Darren Fletcher, Manchester United wishes to announce that he is taking an extended break from football for health reasons.

Over the past year he has had several absence periods which we have attributed to a viral illness in order to respect his right to medical confidentiality. Darren has, in fact, been suffering from ulcerative colitis (a chronic inflammatory bowel condition) for some time preceding this.

Whilst he was able to maintain remission of symptoms for a considerable period this has proved more difficult recently and Darren’s continued desire to play and his loyalty to both his club and country has probably compromised the chances of optimising his own health and fitness.

He has therefore accepted medical advice to take an extended break from the demands of training and playing in order to afford the best chance possible of achieving full remission once again.

We request that his privacy is respected and hope that the removal of the additional stress associated with speculation regarding his health will also aid his recovery.

That would be joke but I dont rate that one bit tbh. We werent good enough, it shouldnt have been under any doubt that we should have qualified, we should have got like 13 points minimum in that group. Basle shouldnt suffer because of the errors of the Swiss FA and Sion.

On the downside they can focus more on the league tho, don't think they would have won the Champions league even with a 2nd chance lulul.

But still >>>>>>>>

lulululul I find it funny how they laugh at us when they can't compare to the amount of success we've had for the past 19 years.
