In high school, 2009, my mate showed me Jme - Over Me. It all went from there.

people used to clash eachother in skl ect. grime back in the day was a lot bigger with the younger generation.

now days grime is able to go mainstream but at the same time all the young bucks are listening to 21 savage and migos.

if you didnt like grime you were seen as moist when i was growing up from age 11-16 and then slowly uk rap and giggs took over, grime got watered down and everyone was trying to follow in dizzees footsteps.

even today no youngers are listening to grime, they listen to nines, cbiz, potter payper ect because grime has become embarrassing and no one believes what the mcs say.

when i was 14 it was the happy slap era. people were rolling around playing grime from their sony erricson and slapping man broad daylight, man were getting robbed left right and center. grime was the sound track for the happy slap era and greaze in general.

as the generations went on it got more and more moist until its ended up how it is today. the youts today are all about image. back then it was more greaze. people would respect you for being a mad man, not for your swag.
Your moaning about people being obsessed with the image - the irony - look at what you've wrote. It's almost entirely focused on the image and has almost nothing to do with the music itself. You're as concerned with the image as they are, albeit in a different way.

Not sure the first time I listened, but the song that fully got me into it was Wiley - Wot u call it. HMV Advert on Channel U for the single. Obviously it wasn't the first one I heard, or knew of, but this was the one song that I remember that stuck with me. I was 12 or 13 at the time. But when I did take notice more I recognised some of the MC names, so had heard of them, just without taking much notice.

I think if people catch on late, they can still get up to date with the people who have been listening from the beginning if they try. (Sadly though most don't and that, I think, is something that contributes to the dislike of new fans.)

Yeah that's the best way to be. No problem with people jumping on grime in 2017 but as long as they don't go around saying Stormzy and Skepta are the G.O.A.Ts...gotta do that research

Exactly (although I would say Skepta's one of the GOATs in grime)

Well yeah I guess he is in the conversation, but you know it from and educated place. Those people who just heard Shutdown and ain't actually heard the history of grime to compare it to are annoying.
