Default Who remembers the first time u listened grime

Me , the first time it was in 2007 at a radio station called Xtreme for music around Tottenham Hale , they played that night Ruff Squad , Konk by Stutta,Taliban by DVA , Anthem by Newham Generals, a Ghetto tune produce by Scorcher that still I am looking for today , and Magic Circle by Garna , I was in a shock afterwards I taped the show and I listened a 100 times afterwards , then because I was a Techno dj in the nineties but since 2000 never touch a turntable again I found Rhythm Division in Bow I bought lots of cd and vivnyl and I was into grime and into djing again

i first heard so solid when i was in primary school age 10,

my bredrin came to skl with a CD walkman listening to so solid. he let me borrow the CD and i got my cousin to rip it for me that night.

and then dizzee followed by lethal b - pow in 2004 in secondary skl, everyone would huddle together in the playground playing grime from their phones. sending eachother tunes via infra-red not even bluetooth lol.

formed a little click in secondary skl with my bredrins, some of us made beats and some of us used to spit. we used to make beats on cubase during skl and then go to my guys yard and record lyrics in his basement.

people used to clash eachother in skl ect. grime back in the day was a lot bigger with the younger generation.

now days grime is able to go mainstream but at the same time all the young bucks are listening to 21 savage and migos.

if you didnt like grime you were seen as moist when i was growing up from age 11-16 and then slowly uk rap and giggs took over, grime got watered down and everyone was trying to follow in dizzees footsteps.

even today no youngers are listening to grime, they listen to nines, cbiz, potter payper ect because grime has become embarrassing and no one believes what the mcs say.

when i was 14 it was the happy slap era. people were rolling around playing grime from their sony erricson and slapping man broad daylight, man were getting robbed left right and center. grime was the sound track for the happy slap era and greaze in general.

as the generations went on it got more and more moist until its ended up how it is today. the youts today are all about image. back then it was more greaze. people would respect you for being a mad man, not for your swag.

Someone sent me that after school over MSN and asked if I wanted a Garage tune. Played it, thought 'what the fuck was that?' as it didn't sound like Garage at all, then turned it off.

Not sure when I first listened to something knowing it was Grime and it had moved on from Garage though.

I was just trying to find new music. There's a book called 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. I found some Russian site that had each album from the book available to stream. I started skimming through first tracks of each album for a while. Came across BIDC. Less than a minute into Sittin' Here and I was just thought "fuck, this is what I've been looking for."

Found GF shortly after. This site is what got me to actually delve deep into the genre for a while.

edit - We need more threads like this. I remember back when I started visiting here every thread was just nostalgia (which led me to discover a lot of older tracks/mixtapes/artists) and actual Grime discussion. Miss it.

skanked out in the jungle room which was mental, rnb room was aite too for the gyal dem

This! The same people bitching on here saying Grime aint real yet listen to a bunch of americanised clowns talking the same subjects Grime MCs used to talk about and think this rappers are real.

Rappers with nothing to say spitting on samey 808 larden beats overusing autotune. So, so dead and one dimentional. Got grown men listening to J Hus ffs.

not sure I totally remember the time but my first Grime artist must've been JME. huge respect for skepta, JME and Wiley.
I never really got into Wiley's tunes until I heard Step 16 and Step 20.
