Yer thats me and i made that probably over ten years ago.

If i recall correctly i made a stabby bass sound with wasp in flstudio that i pitched with the jog wheel at the end of the note (think it was just Root C) then exported that bar as a sample, then used the sample like a kick drum in fl and just piano rolled it in, probably played with the pitch in fl and also the portamento and slide to emphasise the effect

    hope that helps.

can hear a difference between the first and second thing u posted lol

was too basic and repetitive for me, try to add build ups and breakdowns - look into song structure: intro/drop 1/chorus/drop 2/chorus/bridge/drop 3/outro etc..

i dont think there should be any rules "dont use loops" or whatever just have fun making music, do what you wanna do and when ur ready to move on and change, itll happen naturally
and dont worry about making "drops" i think grime can really have any type of layout

    Alright, thanks Snowman

How do you think my actual elements sounded? i.e did the bass sound okay? was the beat sounding okay? did the beat need more percussive elements? Do I maybe need another synth somewhere so it doesn't sound as basic?

depends what sound ur going for tbh, no one else can tell you how your own music should sound
make it sound how you want it to sound, play around with sounds and try adding new stuff or taking stuff out
and eventually you should get something that you like really. if the bass sounds good to you, then who cares what anyone else thinks it sounds like

Thanks for the tips, I will play about with FL Studio and try figure it out.

The thing I really struggle with is; Mixing. I cannot make my bass stand out.
    Any advice? really appreciate it.
    Thanks

Exactly! totally agree with LJ just do what you like!

However, there are certain fundamental things i would recommend you learning about music theory/structure etc if you wanted to do any commercial work - yes you can make a 18 minute long bassline and hihat track with a oboe one hit high note if you want but that would never work for radio or a vocal etc. or if a label wanted a specific sounding track other than your own unique sound you need to know how to create that etc..

Establish what it is your looking to achieve and by what deadline, which is probably just to have fun at this stage so keep experimenting and playing around with different ideas and programs.

    Thanks
As already mentioned sidechaining can do wonders for certain elements in a mix - personally i rarely use this in grime though, maybe with a kickdrum against a dubsteppy/dance track to make the kick more prominent against a dominating bassline etc..

Use something like Waves Paz Analazer or something that will monitor what frequency and dynamics your hitting - personally i try to fill the whole end of the spectrum (again depending on track/project etc)

For example, if you want your bass to stand out, EQ some of the low end out of your synth/lead/pads/other sounds to make the bass more prominent - again a good mixdown can do wonders!
