    Question Dumbbells only?

I'm being a bit of a cheapskate here but I only have some dumb bells atm and don't really have time to join a proper gym, at least for now

can I actually gain muscle just by using these?

i have about 15kg-20kg weights on them

    do bicep curls work?

are weighted sit ups worth doing?

not looking to get huge, just hoping to tone up a bit tbh, want slightly bigger biceps, work on my chest & would like some form of abs on my stomach

please offer tips on how to make gains the cheapskate way

i'm aware that i wont make much progress this way but i'm not really looking to take things too seriously, i do eat a balanced diet as it is though so not much change needed there afaik as i tend to get a lot of protein

    thanks

You can vary a workout with dumbbells other than just lifting. That should keep you busy for a while.

thanks, will it make any difference though? is it worth even sticking to just dumbbells for now for the sake of a slight muscle gain?

Course it will make a difference your doing something you wouldnt normally do. Depends how much training you plan on doing for a "slight" difference you should be able to make a good gain with the weights but you dont sound really willing lol. Just vary your workout other then just arms as with dumbells you should be able to do arms back shoulders legs pretty much everything but not as effectively as you would using the propper equipment at a gym.

You will get bored of dumbbells within 2 weeks most probably so hit a gym 10x easier

There are plenty of workouts that you can do with just dumbbells

get a small folding bench from Argos as well, should only cost about 30

    like this:

you can adjust it and do different dumbbell workouts

I'd get a Z bar as well tbh, should get 10-15kg with it, and you obviously have some weights for your dumbbells already which you can add onto the z bar if you need to increase the weight

    all pushup variations

    situps/crunches - planks

You can do bench with dummbels on floor i dont think u need full ROM (when the arm goes lower than shoulder) but thats what scooby1961 told me

you can also do incline if u got a chair a piece of wood and string lol not sure on safety

Click here to watch the video on YouTube.

also if u want bigger arms do more tri exercises since your tricep muscle is bigger than bicep..

but if ur not doing full body anyway ur a failure tbh

Get one of those pull up bars that fit in-between your doorway, cheap and effective little item

Make sure you hit triceps with those dumbbells. When I come back to my parents house for a weekend and I'm bored I'd fill up a holdall bag with bottles with water, books and I would do hammer curls. I was more sore on my bis then after a proper gym workout lol. 15-20 kg is quiet a bit for a strict one handed concentration curl.

My advice for your biceps training would be to preexhaust with the hardest excercise first as you have limited weight so I'd do something like this:

    1. One handed concentration curl 3-4 working sets
    2. Standing dumbell curl with a twist 3-4 sets
    3. Standing hammer curl 3-4 sets

To make the excercise hard and productive you need to make sure you're not using momentum by swinging with body and you're keeping the elbow still. Also seated curls are harder than standing so maybe u can use some chair if you don't have a bench.
What can you do that ain't been done
What can you say that ain't been said
I've seen a man get shot in the head
He's still moving, he ain't dead
