Always complete it on regular or hardened 1st then play online for a few months until it annoys me. Then play campaign again on veteran.

I usually complete the campaign on Veteran before I play the multiplayer. I'll make an exception with MW3 and take breaks to play the multiplayer with a party.

no lag or server issues all evening an the games as good as always
