grime mc's aren't signed to XL though. they got him on the bbc sound of 2010 and they are pretty sick at getting new genres onto the big stations. dizzee was in the same boat 7 years ago.

how long till it all gets locked off and blocked though...
Wasn't long ago Giggs got his live performances locked off.

Just dunno if UK charts wants UK people talking greezy. They don't mind US people doing it lol.

    Hopefully Giggs does well still.
Don't really see how this is a grime thread though lol

The way they've clamped down on UK urban music, shows getting shut down etc. and just making it altogether harder.

Hopefully times have changed, but I dunno... That recent Form 696 i think it was, making it so much harder to put on events in London etc, and basically targeting live music with 2 decks and an MC.

If they could put grime in the charts easy... Do you think they'd be making watered down crap??

I'm with you on this, but I just dunno how viable it is TBH.

Ghetts had a good way of putting it, in that Grime MCs need to get big in UK doing pop before they can change they're sound back to grime without getting blocked.

Giggs has the advantage though of just rapping over a style that's familiar to UK pop, so hopefully XL can keep pushing him forward.

Thing is if they got Form 696 blocking live music
What else they doing behind the scenes to block the rest... Is what you gotta wonder.

Is an interesting debate though still. Don't think it's quite as clear cut or a black and white situation though.
I think with the UK underground scene constantly pushing, for however long it's been now and continuing, then eventually it's gonna happen.
Giggs could be the man to do it or at least push things further.

These guys will have spoken to A&R's etc though and know what's happening.
Tinchy's earlier singles had a more grime feel to them as well.

thats the good thing, they cant suppress the music forever

and i agree i am making it sound alot more simple than it seems i believe there is a movement tryna to suppress any form of uk rap or grime behind the scenes

unless its pop made by non threating characters like tinchy chipmunk etc

Think Tinchy was vaguely with Island or whoever he was with by then??

Not sure TBH, swear someone was backing him with tunes like Breakaway, that smile track, Stryderman.

Yeah Jack and Archie, they've now got Jodie Connor on their label. Their dad took out a massive Loan to get enough money to sign Tinchy, get Merchandise etc.
