Eduardo: On the way back
Eduardo da Silva has taken a giant step back to action with Arsenal following a horrific leg injury sustained in February by participating in training with Arsene Wenger’s squad, according to reports in the Croatian press.
When the Croatia international suffered a double fracture of his leg and dislocation of his ankle following a challenge from Birmingham City’s Martin Taylor it was feared that his career could be in jeopardy.
But quick work from then Arsenal physio Gary Lewin and a successful operation put the Brazilian-born star on the road to recovery after the trauma he suffered at St Andrews.
Arsene Wenger has recently made very positive noises regarding Eduardo’s possible return to action and the striker, who scored 12 goals last season after joining The Gunners from Dinamo Zagreb, told setantasports.com at the start of September that he hoped to be playing by Christmas.
While no return date has yet been set, Arsenal coach Boro Primorac has been quoted as welcoming the sight of Eduardo training on Wednesday.
“Eduardo is for the first time today [Wednesday] practicing with the team after his serious injury,” Primorac told Sportske Novosti.
“Of course, he worked with reduced capacity, mainly stretching and jogging. He is not yet at the stage where he can go into full contact, but it will come.
“I cannot tell you exactly when Eduardo will play the first match. That will be when it is decided that he is completely ready.
“It is clear that the first match Eduardo will play will be for the reserves, before gradually joining the top team.”
Meanwhile, Barnet have signed Arsenal youngster Abu Ogogo on loan for a month.
