Red Ring of Death

Anyone ever had this with their Xbox? Is there any way of getting it fixed, or just best to go an buy a new one (they aren't too expensive atm).

Temporary fix unplug all cables except power lead turn it on wrap towels around it it will overheat and switch itself off i got another year out of my x box basically the solder breaks away so you overheat it and it melts back together. Other then opening it up and fixing it properly thats the easiest way..

Ye but normally around £50 and i took the view if im paying that i might as well get a new one save it going wrong in future

Just do what i kept doing overheating it and melting it back together lol if your going to buy a new one you got nothing to lose but might keep you from buying one for quiet a while like mine did got another 9-12 months out of it it was good for couple of months never went wrong then had to do it and then turnt into every couple of weeks problem then just stopped completely so its sitting in a cupboard homeing some spiders.

Buy a new one, any fixes for the Red Ring Of Death is temporary.

You're getting the error because one of the connectors on the motherboard has come loose. Microsoft did a shit job with the soldering so as your console was being used over however long, the heat got to the connectors and caused it to come loose. When you do household fixes like the towel method, your literally just buying time before it breaks down again. There are not permanent fixes to it.

Get one of the newer Elite or Slim models, less likely to break down.

I remember I once had the three out of four piece red ring. I took the hard drive out and smashed it a couple of times on my desk. Put it back in and it's worked fine ever since. This was around a year ago.

I looked into the error code I got and saw a video of someone doing exactly that. Thought 'fuck it' and tried it out. Couldn't believe it worked.

I sent my elite to Microsoft a few years back, free repair, 1 month good membership & they replaced my cd drive with the latest model (opened & closed better, different models of 360s out there)

Sounds like my mates old computer. he had a case for it but didn't strap his motherboard down and that so it was all just hanging out everywhere was fucked tbh. Still don't understand how it worked.

They use 3-4 different types of DvD drives. But if your gunna replace it you need to get the same type so no real way you got the "latest model".

I had one of the first kind of DVD models released when I brought my elite, once it was returned from Microsoft I saw it wasn't the same one (also on the invoice thingy, they ticked off and noted what was wrong / what's changed, one of the points was the DVD drive, I didn't enquire about it originally so it was a nice surprise). If I still had the sheet I'd show you it was changed (aka not just a straight up replacement of the same DVD drive).

I utilise the slim nowadays though, red rings are a myth lol.

Used to stick cotton buds in the back off mine worked for about 2months then stopped , aint had an xbox for about year and half now.

I had the four rings once and I ran over to my xbox and turned it off. Unplugged the av leads and left it for a bit and plugged it back in and it worked fine for me
