I think even with what you're trying to get at, it doesn't work.
When someone hits a good shot, they say, "what a great shot"
They do it again close after & they say, "another great shot"
They do it 3 times in quick succession... What do they say then? They say.."Wow.. He's got a good shot".
It's no longer a fluke, he's owned that title.
Like with Ronaldo & Messi now we expect them to hit a certain level, that's the standard they set. The fact that Rooney has averaged about 17 goals a season bar 2, which were both 30+ & those 2 didn't come consecutively... it feeds into the doubt. If those 2 were consecutive then he'd have more credibility of becoming that 30+.. but, last season wasn't too hot for him.
I know he had his problems last season & I expect you can create a thread next season after he's hopefully bagged maybe even 40+
But he has to own it & that means doing it consecutively & consistently. He hasn't done that.
We agree though, he's still world class. Just for me he hasn't put to bed that particular criticism... just yet

If the forum was getting gassed off RVP(so was I) then there is no reason why Rooney shouldn't be treated the same. People say last season was bad for him but I swear in the run in he saved United enough times. My memory is shit so I might have it wrong.
"This is Fulham for heaven’s sake. This is a club which 15 years ago didn’t have two brass filings to rub together, which used to play in front of 3 or 4000 rattling around here. Which once played on a night in Rochdale needing points to stay off the bottom of the English League. But were brought by a very rich man, and there he is. And which has now become a hugely enriched club.”
It's things like this that make him world class

When I say bad, I mean it wasn't a settled season for him.
He only started to get back to his goalscoring self 2nd half of the season.
In the season he ended a stretch where he had not scored a goal in open play for 8 months.
He said he wasn't happy & wanted to leave as he did not believe in the quality of the players around him & doubted the ambition of the club.
He had an injury & Fergie supposedly gave him time off to get his head straight..
So I understand why his numbers were hit.
Even RvP has to keep it up, before will expect this from him as a standard rather than just understanding he is capable & that's the difference.
He did. The 1st half of the season was really bad though, and I see what Zoffie is saying with the consecutive thing (actually had a feeling that would get said), but the goal against City for example is a part of why I think he's world class and has been for years. He is capable of moments of sheer genius and he's done it consistently over the years, ever since he was 16 when he scored that goal against Arsenal.
In terms of goalscoring, this is the 4th season he scored more than 20. I don't think that his strike rate is that bad considering he likes to play deeper, and has been used on the wing a lot. His strike rate this season is actually better than Aguero's too, who I think would be considered world class.
I can't imagine a team in the world that Rooney wouldn't start for. I can't.
I don't even know where the cunt plays
He's one of the best players in one of the best leagues.
World class for me. He could well break the Man United scoring recrod ffs![]()
