@The Elijah checking out your tumblr page right now and i see "the label is here to support the new guys getting their music out, so I continue to listen for new talent to push on the show and release on the label." what you looking for in new mc's that haven't really got a name? (just a question)

Like I was saying on here two years ago before I started the label would like to see regular single releases from people so people get to know the songs we go and play in the club. Nobody knows track 9 of most Grime mixtapes released on sendspace. Myth. Real focused high quality product.
Can't think of many that fit into that bracket atm.

I dont necessarily look for people that haven't got a name, because to most people that dont listen to Grime all the time they won't know half of the active acts anyway. So people we consider established, aren't that well known still.

Certain Dj's need to stop presetting all the tracks to 140bpm to spin at raves even on radio as it sound terrible and you can notice the difference easily.

Butterz has been a successfull move what with there releases and hosting there own raves as such its a big look and alot of good promotion for themselves i respect the hard work they put into it. I still feel theres movement for others to come in and do the same with labels as well i think more live events have been needed and i think slowly and surely they are coming back to the surface.

    @The Elijah

Moodswings VIP and Orangeade VIP pretty much set the benchmark for how instrumentals should be made listenable, you should be pushing producers to do that more. If you could get Spooky and Darq E Freaker to make 6 minute long instrumentals with multiple switch ups and instrument changes etc instead of looping the same 16 - mastered properely also - I think it would go a long way to give producers an idea of what to look to do.

I hear you on that and agree it just annoys me that other would have to push producers to do that.. Producers these days are more interested in PRS i think thats a major factor of releases etc.

But Jammer signed Sox for 200k

    Lol

But seriously, we're beating a dead horse with this thread, everyone knows what they would like to see from grime and everyone has a good idea of what needs to happen for the scene to grow.

how well did that oneaway style cd do in 08? i remember picking it up in west end and leaving it after one listen. no-ones really interested in hearing a mixtape of mc's telling us you have dubs.

from when a lexman freestyle upped two weeks ago struggles to reach 200 views, yet rubbish 'dubs' between brum mc's upped yesterday is hitting thousands, you know the scene and its fan base are messed. we all know which mc's have the most listeners, and how much those listeners actually care for grime outside an sb.tv video or twitter presence. could go on being really cynical about the genre but that helps no-one.

    /

consistent labels that release actual grime, pitch controllers seemed to start nicely but i don't even remember their last release. plainface and ghost house look promising too so that's alright. could learn from other scenes, nearly every label in dnb like ram, shogun, etc, all have a steady output of releases (1/2 a month), with vinyl two weeks before the digital and it seems successful, as those listeners on other forums also voice appreciation. obviously the grime demand isn't as strong, but from when a planned p jam release takes month to still not come out and dok supposedly doesnt want his tunes released./hdhdhtghvj don't even need to go on about that

in terms of nights, terror's the only grime act at fabric on friday, but i think thats works. could be off the mark here, but it seems a grime room takover at respected nights at venues like fabric, motion, whp, etc, even if its room 3 would work better for the scene compared to bubblegum nights like this, http://bit.ly/wwERLg (8+ mcs/djs yet grimes not even mentioned on the policy l0l). i know butterz did it last year and have been able to move on to cable now. but yh, sharing an event with top labels from other respected scenes must have benefits. http://www.fabriclondon.com/club/listing/552 bit like this, but moar grime. dont know anyone who goes to a playaz night and can bare hours on end of jump up, so they may have the chance to wonder upon a j sweet set or see guys like kozzie spraying down. just an idea.

was flicking through the dial few weeks ago and came across someone playing spyro's silo pass remix and discarda which was sick to hear, couldn't get the name of the station or dj though. radio nowadays is hit and miss, so don't even know how you could improve on that. regardless of all this though, ppl have to accept that the modern day grime fan is someone who will follow any garbage bbk and their affiliates put out, acknowledge it, then skip ahead to their ted sheeran, drake, rizzle dicks, (any shit rapper) track. youngers not caring for grime and solely grime anymore is the biggest downfall, but again, been like that for a while now and cant really do anything about it. op is catering to forum needs rather than your average grime fan today.

very good thread this, I think a lack of unity in the scene is the problem every body wants the same thing deep down at heart whether it be a return of a classic night like sidewinder, or a first ever grime #1, releases being on time etc and in the last 2 years things have improved grime may not be on point with sharpness of other genres releases (delays etc) but things are improving and it will not be perfect over night. The main thing I would like to see is more nights with no dubstep and other genres you go to a house night you don't hear a grime set it is strictly house, grime shows to much respect to other genres and gets none shown back.

Those labels you have mentioned have been going for years, so its difficult to compare. Butterz is only two years old RAM started in 1992. Even most of the well known dubstep labels can't do that. Without losing a lot of money on each release anyway.

D.O.K doesnt want his tunes released? Where you hear that? Course he does. Just got to be the right ones, not every single thing you ever hear played.

Aside from what Logan Sama is doing label wise nobody is moving in the correct ways to get those club situations popping for themselves. So they won't happen. I always wanted to have the Butterz name known for parties as well as releases but maybe it is different for others.

Like you said im putting on the Cable night, but the thread here getting air. Will be fine regardless, but it shows what the audience on here care about.

I dont think unity is needed.

Great individual visions and pioneers yes. Returns of Sidewinder and Grime number ones, no.

Releases get delayed in other genres, from independents up to majors. Plans change. Life happens, shit happens.

Again all you can do is attend the nights that are on, and they will continue to pop up. If our audience came and represented at Cable we could fill it 10x over, but people choose not to. Fine, but if these things dont continue you will know why.

No it's not, but if no-one gives anyone a kick start in this scene nothing gets done. 90% of MCs and producers are lazy, disorganised and generally don't know how to manage themselves.

That white label is the best piece of vinyl I own and I guarantee everyone else that owns it and all proper fans of grime would like to see it happen again, even as digital downloads.

Respect man, that means a lot.

But yea fuck promoting lazy people. Move with the movers. Keep shit moving.

If they can't see the bigger picture after 2 years of Butterz I cant help them
