"This is Fulham for heaven’s sake. This is a club which 15 years ago didn’t have two brass filings to rub together, which used to play in front of 3 or 4000 rattling around here. Which once played on a night in Rochdale needing points to stay off the bottom of the English League. But were brought by a very rich man, and there he is. And which has now become a hugely enriched club.”

    Basically.

Rooney is a top 3 striker in world football, you give him Messi's chances tonight do you think he would have scored them all? Messi is just that good.

Barcelona have been unlucky that they're competing against a ruthless Madrid side for the league title. Barca have lost two games all season, so have Real, but Real have managed to kill off the smaller clubs. Barca have drawn 6 and lost 2 which isn't poor at all. Barcelona are better than Real Madrid, which is why they've beaten them in the league and cup this season.

People conveniently forget the games such as APOEL away in the CL where Messi bagged a hat-trick in the absence of Iniesta. Iniesta is important to Barcelona, that is obvious. But so is Messi. He is not being spoon-fed goals here.

There's a reason why you hardly ever see a team win 3 league titles in a row. You become the team to beat, as has happened with Barca in their away games. The home side play like it's their cup final.

Everyone with some knowledge of football and/or the odd brain cell agree Messi is the best.

The few who disagree are bitter, retarded or biased (or a combination of all three).

No-one has countered my views, Mr. Jefferies reinforced them, that people are being hypocritical. Pele is allowed to do it at only one high level and is freely considered the GOAT by many, but this isn't the case for Messi?
Zidane, Eusebio, Cruyf, Ronaldo, Maradona all played by themselves in teams yeah? They didn't have 10 other players of varygin degress of quality helping them and passing to them no?

If there's ever a bandwagon worth riding, it is the Messi one. He's a god amongst men and I would happily sell my newborn daughter if he commanded me to.

For the record, Zidane's 1998 French side had one of the best defenses and midfields I've ever seen. Anyone who said he single handedly did it for them didn't watch that or Euro 2000. He did it by himself in 2006 from the QFs on though, but then ultimately let the team down (he's more of a legend for that tbh).

    this is getting silly now

i dont consider pele the goat but ill go along with this for arguments sake

how can you say he played at only one high level, your completely disregarding the brazilian league at that time.
The brazilian team that dominated in the 1958-70 era consistent mainly of brazilian league players. Back then signing south american talents and bringing them to europe simply did not happen. If anything the brazilian league in peles day >>>>>>>>>> any european league. So please tell me how this isn't high level football

Every single legend has proved it for different clubs or country
Why is this suddenly changed when it comes to messi?

i fell like i keep going round in circles but in a nutshell
as long as messi continues to under perform for argentina he'll never be the GOAT

Other great players went to other teams/leagues, mainly due to necessity of their talents outgrowing their clubs and them chasing success. If Messi broke through at one of the best clubs in the world and through his contribution has turned them into the greatest club side of all time please tell me why its essential to certain people that he moves? To make a point to you retards yeah? Do you understand how foolish that sounds

Ultimately, we can only each say whether we think is GOAT to our own standards. Im happy with Messi being titled as GOAT. Good luck to those comparing him to guys that they've never been able to watch week in week out.

Wut who's asking for messi to move.
The guy represents two teams already
All i'm saying is that once he starts to reproduce his barcelona form at argentina he'll be the GOAT
    but this hasn't happened yet.

Messi gets on the pitch, he scores and creates goals with ease and there's no doubt in my mind he'll do that at the next world cup. His perfs haven't been at the high standard as it has been for Barca but neither has been the management for many years at Argentina. If the task is for Messi to perform well its minor to him, he was good last WC just very unlucky. Its the people setting him the task of winning the WC for Argentina that have it wrong, there's never been a 1 man team to win the world cup so we have to assess how strong the actual Argentina squad is before we say Messi should or shouldn't be winning the WC with them. Yes I agree he needs to perhaps score more for them, but he will he's 24, how many people had Zidane down as a potential GOAT before he scored in the WC final in 98. He was 26 at the time.

Your post said all legends have proved it with diff clubs which is irrelevant tbh

Also the brazillian league wasn't viewed as better than European Leagues in Peles time. It wasn't the norm for players to move country that freely so there was world class players in the league surrounded by part-timers. I'm 99% sure all footballers in Europe from the 1950s onwards were professionals

I agree in that he doesn't have to win the WC. For example if messi had a crazy tournament in 2014 and reached the semi finals, the GOAT status is his.

It's not really irrelevant cause by doing it at different clubs they've proved that they're not relient on a set up.

Anyways i'm out of this debate since we all know messi will be the GOAT at the end of his career.

I rarely watch Barca, and players who have been great I haven't had the pleasure of watching week in week out. The truth is you can only go off statistics/clips/games you do watch unless you are 200 years old and have watched every game these players have played in. If you're not I don't care who you think the GOAT is, becuase there's no definate way to judge. It is definatly worth noting that he's playing in one of the best club sides of all time because if he wasn't his statistics would not be as good, @Hij . After all, statistics are what people will look at in 20 years. 'GOAT' in football is a myth, we'll never know. End of story. One of the greatest of all time, yes. The greatest, no.

Messi is only 24! His stats already are mind boggling. He is set to become Barcelonas alltime greatest goal scorer before his 25th birthday. Yes iniesta and xavi are very important to messi and his goals but its not like other great players did have world class players playing with them. Messi just stands out cause of his age and natural ability to manipulate a football and get past players at pace.

He is out of this world. The best player we will see in our lifetime. He will probably never leave Barcelona however. So much gass in this thread!

Messi y Neymar on the same team? Scary.

Every intelligent person says he's the GOAT.

The fact that he "underperforms" and is "shit" for his country, yet still has one of the best international records of all time, PROVES alone he is the best.

He's the best player, in the best team of all time, and scores the best goals in the best competition.

If he never scores in another competition again, besides the Champo League, it doesn't change shit. Guys are acting like if he plays Grimsby tomorrow and plays shit, that invalids all his other brilliant work?

Fuck past generations, Fuck Maradonna and Pele. Football them times was not at the level it is these days imho, when I look back and watch old games.

Thank God Inshallah I have been able to see 3 of the greatest players EVER! in my life time.

    Zidane
    Messi
    R9 Ronaldo (Brazil)

Zidane is the best whole all round package of a player/leader/beast I have ever seen for me he is the GOAT.

Messi probably will one day be crowned GOAT but for me he is in one of the best Team's in history which helps alot. Barca's passing and work rate. >>>

R9 Ronaldo, all the hype, personal problems and pressure he was a fucking goal machine in the 18 yard box at every level of football. Probably the most natural gifted goal scorer I have ever seen.
His goal to games for different clubs and Brazil. Nasty >>>
