I'm intrigued by the idea of a Kazuya/Hwoarang combination going up against Street Fighter guys, but I inevitably get bored with fighting games pretty quickly as I'm not much of a random online matches type of person.
@Pred thought you was on about that tbh, apprently hardcore gameers aint feeling the game to much, it has a rage system thingy like mvc3
I don't know too much about it so I don't know if there's a rage meter, but all this gem business has divided people I think. Especially as they are making some gems pre-order only, and there isn't a no gems area online. Unless they've changed that since when I heard it, Capcom should know better than to be dicks to the hardcore crowd.
IS this on street fighter's engine or tekken's?
Tekken X Street Fighter is gonna be strange, purely because it'll be the SF guys in 3D again...but current 3D. Not that shitty early 3D of the EX series.
@Pred see i dont even understand this gem thing myself lol, going to look it up now but tbh i dont think i'll get this straight away, will probs get it when its 20quid or so
.Street Fighter X Tekken features two new game mechanics: the Gem System and Pandora Mode. Players equip up to three gems to their characters, which provide different stat boosts depending on the type of gem. Six varieties of gems exist: attack, defense, speed, vitality, assist, and Cross Gauge. Each gem and its effects are designated by a specific color, and will activate as the players fulfill certain conditions during battle. When a character on a player's team has less than 25% health remaining, that character can be sacrificed in order to activate Pandora Mode, which gives the remaining fighter increased strength and an infinite Cross Gauge. However, this state has a time limit and the player will automatically lose if he/she cannot defeat the opponent before the Pandora state runs out.
lol @ Pandora mode, that's very weird.
Gems are things like "Take 5 special attacks to activate 1.5x damage for 30 seconds", which makes this game less about the fighting skills and more about gem management. There's strategy in there, but surely it makes for predictability. You have your gems. You defend until you get all three gems activated at one go. Your opponent knows you are going to attack now.
Capcom reveal that they will release 12 Characters on Vita in the fall and they will be DLC for consoles.
DLC SCAM...
The added characters are:
Cody, Guy, Elena, Blanka, Sakura, Dudley, Alisa, Lars, Christie, Lei, Bryan and Jack.
That's right..Cody, Guy, Christie, Lei..characters that were leaked along with the ones recently confirmed.
People already suspected Alisa and Lei were going to be in because of the ESRB info.
You can be sure they will release a console version after fall with all the characters and gems included.
So, do I have permisssion to rage now?
Beat up for releasing UMvC3 just 9mo. after MvC3 Capcom declared they are done with that practice, at least for SFxT, and all updates would be done via DLC. I say its probably as much to do with the Namco licensing deal than it is Capcom growing a heart.
One thing Capcom obviously hasn't grown is a conscious. They continue to RAPE fans with outrageously priced DLC add-ons that typically would be found as unlockables in older games.
SFxT plays like SF with a faint glimmer of its Tekken cast and their move sets. It looks fun and probably offers a more casual, lenient take on the SF series.
Gems - which basically work as mid-fight buffs that unlock after you repeat the correct moves - are a big 'if' that has most of the fighting community turned off. It will be left to see if or how badly they break the gameplay.
While I know there was talk of TxSF I don't see it in the near future. Namco just finished up SCV and are working toward a holiday release for Tekken Tag 2. I don't see them fitting another fighter in until 2Q 2013 at the earliest and by that time we could be fast approaching new console cycles.
The Tekken players translate pretty well onto this game. When I played this at the Eurogamer Expo last year, I found it pretty easy to pick up on Kazuya's moves. Obviously those who only play Tekken might find it a bit weird at first but it shouldn't take too long for people to pick up on.

I played this at the weekend. If you didn't like SF4 you won't like this, but it's probably a good game.
