Walcott - I can offer more through the middle

Theo Walcott hopes to get his chance as a centre forward soon after discussing a potential change of position with Arsène Wenger.

The England international broke into the Arsenal side on the right of a three-pronged attack and has given countless left backs problems in the Premier League and beyond.

But much of Walcott's finest work has come when he drifts into a central position and uses his pace to run in behind the opposition - the winner at Udinese being a case in point. The 22-year-old has three goals in six starts this season and believes he can do more damage from those areas.

"I had a meeting with the boss and explained my point of view," Walcott told the Official Matchday Programme.

"He knew the conversation would come up and was very happy to talk about it. He says he’ll give me a chance there at the right time, and I’m dying for it to happen – but he knows exactly what he is doing and obviously I trust him.

"I believe I can give so much more to the team playing up front, with the runs I can make off the ball, and I just love hitting the back of the net as well.

"At times I feel a bit, if not wasted, then in and out of games on the right. I just want it more and more, having scored a few last season - I’m not a winger and I think plenty of people know that. I’ve done OK out there but I’d love to play down the middle."

Wojciech Szczesny believes he commands the respect of his team-mates and is ready to take on the responsibility of captaining Arsenal.

Robin van Persie is the current Gunners skipper after being given the armband over the summer following the departure of Cesc Fabregas.

But goalkeeper Szczesny has now revealed that he would love the job at some point in the future after establishing himself as a regular in the side.

The 21-year-old believes he is already qualified for captaincy as the rest of the players at Emirates Stadium pay attention to what he has to say.

"I feel that when I say something, everyone listens to me. More so on the field than in the dressing room, but that's more important, I think," Szczesny said in the Daily Mirror.

"I want to be captain of the team. I feel I am able to take on that responsibility."
