Fans' fury with BBC set to axe Football League Show
Fans across the country have received a blow with the BBC set to axe their popular Football League show.
The programme, which airs after Match of the Day late on a Saturday night, is seen as being too expensive.
When the Football League Show wasn't shown on Boxing Day, fans responded furiously.
And an insider told the Mirror: 'This will be the last season the BBC broadcasts the Football League Show.
'It is coming to the end of a three year contract and it will not be renewed.'
Presenter Manish Bhasin said that the programme didn't air on Boxing Day due to a 'budget decision' and also said that he shared the frustration of viewers.
On the future of the Football League Show, Bhasin told his Twitter followers: 'Not sure where these rumours have come from but the FLS has NOT been scrapped! It's on til May and who knows maybe even longer....but.'
Fan Fiona Martin said on Twitter: 'The BBC can't afford to have the football league show, but they can pay Alan Hansen 40k a week!'
And Christopher Clark wrote: 'If the BBC didn't pay millionaire Shearer so much maybe the budget would stretch?'
Speculation will now be fuelled that Match of the Day, which is up for tender next year, will also be scrapped.
The BBC have lost a number of high-profile sporting events in recent years, with many Formula One fans still angry after the corporation announced it would share its live coverage with Sky next season.
The BBC's sporting budget has been cut by 15 per cent, and live football is at a premium.
Sky still dominate the market with live coverage of the Premier League, while ITV screen the Champions League, the FA Cup and England internationals.
The BBC's only live football is supplied by Championship games, and the latter stages of the League Cup.

Never knew it was being axed, all I heard was that it was off air till the 14th due to budget discrepancies. Tbh tho I never watch the whole thig just check the highlights on the BBC website.
Will be a shame if it goes off air though
will be a shame if it goes off air it can be a good watch but overall the coverage of the lower leagues is bad if u cant get to see your team live your lucky to see over a minutes worth of highlights
hopefully were back on MOTD next season anyway![]()
Lol at them blaming the tight budget on Shearer and Hansen's wages.. Like they don't spend a shit load of money on their hundreds of other terrible programmes that no one watches
But also lol at Hansen being on 40k a week for about 15 minutes work.
Football league show is on too late tho tbh they should move it to BBC2.
shit program tbh
I cant believe steve claridge gets paid to talk about football

Its a good show. Fans of every single club in the football league get to see their teams on TV once a week, each player that scores a goal in the football league can watch it back and will have the memory of it being shown on TV that same night. What's wrong with that? That's great to me, and the BBC have got it wrong again.
The value for money in the quality of punditry and analysis on MOTD is the real issue here and I'm sorry but this season Gary Neville on Sky>>>>>anyone on MOTD. Alan Hansen re-watching goals and picking out 'bad defending' time and time again isn't cutting it. And apart from having decent banter with Hansen and Shearer once in a while I can't see why Lawrenson is still around tbh. They're all over paid and a waste of budget and the BBC responds by cutting a programme that affects fans of about 60 clubs all over the country smh
bit of a shame tbh
and it's.... C FROM T
To put it how you lot put it sometimes, Starks is "Freeing the realness".
If the wages of Shearer and Hansen are too much, sack them, despite their former football ability they are both boring, bring nothing to the table - so much so that I only watched the whole show when I was in prison as you had to, whereas now I'm out again I fast forward

It's a good show and I enjoy watching it. This is disappointing to hear but not too surprising.
I was pissed when I learnt it wasn't on boxing day. I wanted to see our goals vs crystal palace.![]()
I like goals on Sunday but never get up early enough
Also bros its a sad day for sport as Georgie Thompson has left sky sports to go on their bullshit F1 channel, hopefully they sign an upgrade ASAP
