why do alot of mcs concentrate more on bars than hooks on tunes?

surely the bars dont matter as much if its a catchy tune?

if grime wants mainstream success i dont think people not in the scene are gonna care about whos got the deepest bars they are gonna just want something catchy to listen to?

i thin they need to put as much thought into the hook as they do the bars. moretime they'll write sick verses and stick a singy hook in cos they think it'll b catchy. thts wastin the bars they need to spend the sorta time they spend on a verse on writin a good hook

to me they both matter, equally too

i dont wanna hear a shit chattin in bars and catchy hooks, that'll make me hate the tune as a whole

Yeah true they're both important. And a catchy hook is nice but if the bars are shit, the tune is just another hit of the week to be forgotten.

bars >>> hooks

i dont give a shit about the hook as long as the bars and beat are on point (unless it's really really bad)

in fact alot of grime songs would be better off without hooks IMO

bars = longevity
hook = maybe a 5 minute hit

agree

work the bars roun the hook.

a hook is what people remember the tune by hence why Boy in da Corner was BIG..I Luv U, Fix Up Look Sharp, Stop That.

I think hooks are actually harder to write than the bars!

I was just thinking how good ghetto's hook on the intro to 2000 7 Life was before i saw this thread.

"Its G H E double T and O, my heart ain't nothing but freezing cold.."
