I hate to draw attention to the rwd forums lol
we are signing a deal this week so look once again the power of music got me through again big up bless beats we are goin to make paper
For me this tune could get Wiley serious attention in the mainstream, especially if hes got major backing.
For me it doesn't matter that it's not grime, If wiley shifts units more people will listen to him and he's not going to compromise his sound.
Thoughts.....

No worries, its the information we want and this is a very big look.
How does signing just one song work?
I want to see this do well and want to see Wiley get some success as he deserves it no homo been in the game for ages and is still dropping grime on his album, so he should get a bly for this tune which is still a good tune imo.

You have probly seen my comments on there but for those that havent i will express again.
This tune could be HUGE and get Will into the mainstream. Still, the point i wanna make is that this tune will be one Race Against Time, which is a summer release. Having this Rolex tune being played now, it will be rinsed by the time the album drops. Much like gangsters n eskiboy on Playtime is Over.
I think it would be better suited to a summer release as its got that funky house, dance, electro feel and thats what (for the majority of the UK) summer is about. Club Music!
Still i cnt knock the song as im rinisin it jus as much as the next guy!

You've been talking to Carter too much recently. Bare negative posts all over the shop about everyone. But fair enough if thats your opinion.
I fail to see how you can fuck up one tune thats been signed already, the hard work in that sense has already been done, barring recording a video its all out of Wiley's hands now.
But thats why I want to no know whos signed it and what the deal is with it. Could just have been signed to be included on a next house cd, or it could actually be being pushed for the mainstream and charting, which one is it?
BTW. Did the thread starter intentionally do 'Wearing my own Rolex' lmfao

Yea i know but the tune was 'underground' before it went mainstream.
I was gettin bored of it as it was starting to get played on Kiss every hour, on the hour!
Same goes for Benga - Night....im bored of it now n its just starting to make its way onto the mainstream club scene.
For the tune it will be great coz of sales....but in terms of fans like ppl on here n other forums n in scene, we will be bored of it by the time it actually gets released.
Can u see what im sayin or am i jus goin on?

Oh yea definately...i made those comments before i realised itwas signed.
And as Logan said it will be featuring on Race Agenst Time.
What let Wiley down on Playtimes Over is coz we had already heard 3-4tunes off before it was released, if this tune gets put out now, is he in danger of doin it again?

Its like a mini label deal. The label help promote the single etc then take a slice of the profits. Its quite low risk for a label 2.

It's not exactly the same tho, is it? I wonder if bless actually owns the sample CD it's from tho (ie. not downloaded or borrowed), because if he doesn't, they'll not get a penny once the man comes knockin at the door lookin to check the license.
Anyway, was the electro bandwagon not at it's peak a couple years back? I swear I've not heard any big electro tunes in the charts for time. Track has the potential to do well, but all this "this could be a mainstream smash hit" hype is a bit much. Just because something sounds like something else released years before that did well, does not a hit make.
No hate, I hope it does well, but I think people are going a bit over the top.

not really a big look for grime at all because if there's any success with it, the label will be expecting more of the same, not grime. Wiley's had exposure in the 'mainstream' before with a reasonable amount of telly appearances n that and still no break for the grime scene. I think people are expecting a bit much from this.

its only the single signed so it'l mean more copies of his album being sold if it does well. they wont influence his album if thier just pushing the single release init

in fairness, this won't appeal to the hardcore electro heads because of its similarity to bodyrox. It'll appeal to the general public to a degree.
It won't make anyone a million. To get to number 1 you can sell as little as 15,000 copies (in a week). Break that down to what the artists involved will get and you're talkin about £7,000 - £25,000 that week for the artists (together) depending on the format in which it's bought (more for CD, less for download). And that's a number one ffs.

Indeed, but all I was saying is that people need to realise it's not some cakewalk in the charts. If you think chart success leads to riches beyond your wildest dreams, you're lost because, essentially, the majority of people who get into the charts make enough to line their pockets (if they've not spent a fortune on vids, etc and if they dont owe their label a fuckload) for a year and then dip out of the limelight due to consumer apathy. I wish Wiley good luck, but people on here need to learn about the industry man. The main benefit of getting into the charts is that the name gets around. It's an advertising setup, at the most. I couldn't tell you what's in the charts now, or what's been number one. I don't follow it.
t.

Although if you get a really really popular number one it can be true.
For all the future royalties for it playing in films, soaps etc etc I think you can earn alot.
Also if Wileys been signed, are you sure the company aint just gonna clear the sample?

Oh I agree with you. Infact Im pretty certain that in various circumstances you can earn more money these days without getting signed if you have some good contacts and move good units- than you can being signed and getting a shitty percentage.
Being signed means profits are going to your manager, your label, the guy who produced the video for you don't it, and sometimes this isn't as profitable as it seems.
4737
7th February '08, 07:35 PM
We don't even know the circumstances of the signing. It could have just been a straight licensing fee, plus a minority percentage. You can guarantee the label will be making more off this than Wiley. Anyone know what label it is?

LOL making me second guess myself watch I'm gonna listen to it right now. Okay listening... Radio 1 will be all over this I think.
I'd be very shocked if it didn't make top 20 and would not be shocked to see it make Top 10. There aint many words man so everyday dance heads will buy it. Look at all those BAIT dance tunes that chart.

Top 5 Was A Bullshit Statement But Top 10 Is Possible. It's all about the promotion.
And I aint even a big big fan of Wiley.

lol at ppl loving this tune.
i follow electro/minimal house as much as i do grime and belive me,this tune is just any standard electro beat compared to the stuff out there.
there are some serious beats going on in electro right now.
i bet this tune wont even reach top 40,if it does then ban me.
i dont think it will chart either, if it does it wont be top 20.
I like the song but there is a lot more creative tunes out there

I heard Wear my own Garms remix on Radio 1 last night, I'm so used to hearing grime only on pirate radio and Logans show that I was suprised.
Maybe if Wearing my Rolex comes out as a single CD (Is that what the single being signed means?) then Wear my own garms could be on there aswell

Pete Tong one of the best Dance DJ's span this track on his radio one show just now.
Got a call from my mate who normally drinks with his house mates at Uni and listen to this show before they go out to say Wiley was on it.
If it starts getting played in the clubs it could be onto big things.

Maybe he was making it clear it would be available on all of those formats rather than just a singular format.
The fact its available in all different formats can only do well for its selling.
Hearing this played in clubs doesn't seem so far away now.

as long as its on itunes it'll sell if its getting as much play as people saying it is.

nope. you think about it, electro house tracks are typically an alright beat with some faceless blonde and generic lyrics.
this is a black "urban" male with identifiable content and street credibility on a chart track. this song is really easy to market and it's about that more than the track these days.

It aint like I'm Wiley's biggest fan and this tune aint Grime and aint my fav Wiley track by a long shot but the fact is people will latch onto this track. Bare totp heads who buy singles will love it...
According to Wiley he put the vox down 9 days ago...
