View Full Version : Christiano Ronaldo: Footballers are treated like slaves

Stop treating Ronaldo like slave, Blatter tells United - http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080710/sp_soccer_afp/fblengpresppormanutdrealfifaronaldo
Its been saying on Sky Sports News all day that Ronaldo has agreed, I'm lookng for a quote to confirm it.
IMO its a ridiculous statement to make. With the amount of money they get paid and the amount of money clubs pay for them players should be loyal until the club decides to sell them (as long as they are being played).

But still. I will jubilate and crack open a bottle of champagne, the day Sepp Blatter gets assassinated. There was no need/point for someone in his position to make the comments he made. He's made the situation worse and further strengthens my belief that he has a vendetta against English clubs. Had the club in question been Barcelona or AC Milan, he would have stayed out of it.
Ronaldo is under contract, thus United can do whatever they please with him.
Blatter is far and away the worst thing to happen in FIFAs 104 year history.

And that might be true, but the more stupid mancs, and I include all of you emotionally affected, because you're all stupid, from the pant-pisser and motorway hard-shoulder shitter Ferguson downwards, should be wary of involving FIFA in this particular scenario in the first place anyway, because if FIFA were to be invoked in every scenario in which a team taps up another player, unsettles them through the press, or is devious and underhand, you would be getting anally raped by FIFA for being the biggest bunch of tapping up cheating bastards since the dawn of time under the reign of the old purple faced alcoholic bastard. Be careful what you wish for.
I guess in your emotion your shit-stain of a club became a big cry baby, bleating to FIFA because nasty Real Madrid is making eyes at the greaseball and he wants to leave, awww diddums. Unaware that asking for arbitration in this is like a serial burglar asking for help when his own house gets done in. You stupid fuckin twats.

treated like slaves? Fuck off. Just to even think of comparing footballers now to the conditions that slaves laboured under is frankly diabolical
As to Ronaldo, dunno. He seems to be shit-stirring for no real reason. Can only assume he wants to leave because he's said jack, but he owes it to the fans to come with a statement or something
The ironic thing is players have so much power these days, if a player wants to leave now there is very little their club can do about it

Let him go, so we can get on with this... it's jarring now!!!!
Obviously, i want him to stay as he is one of the best players in the world, he has given us 5 years already. He has won everything he can with United (well expect for the Super Cup :D)
He wants to go, we can't force him to stay and play well (which is the main thing) .... So get 50mill odd, buy a couple of players, loads of players would want to come to us, if we show interest, we are the European Champions for f sake.
It's more likely, he will go now, seeing as Carlos Queiroz seems to taking up the Portugal job.

Long term contracts are really just there to prevent bosman rulings .
Players do not have too much power at all. Ronaldo cannot leave us his manchester agree to or his contract is ended. Man utd still have the ultimatesay.
Ronaldo should have the rights of any labourer and not be forced to play for a club that doesn't meet his worth and conditions.

When the word "slave" is mentioned, its used in the context of players being bought & sold with no say in the situation, you have to look past the money!
I don't think Ronaldo wants to move because of money, he's done everything he can at Man U, he's in search of glory, when he retires he wants to look back on his career & see that he helped 2 big clubs win major honours.

players have too much power, because if they make a fuss and want to leave the club can't do anything about it, even if they're under contract.
That relates to the bold bit, which actually shows the power players have now. Contracts aren't an honourable bind between two parties, it is now a safeguard for the club if/when a player has a hissy-fit
You're looking at things in a narrow way. Man U should hae the ultimate say, but the way things are they can't plan properly for next season, there is unrest. They could make him stay and Ronaldo could just sit on the bench, even refuse to play if his demands aren't met. Hence the Gallas uproar when he said he would an own goal if he couldn't leave Chelsea (whether that was true or not is another matter).
The term 'rights' is a bit hard to take given his material wealth and what he has gained from being at Man United, which relates to the whole slave talk.
LOL at people not understanding the term "modern" slaves
It was a careless comment at best, but in reality blind and, really, fucking stupid. You don't say 'slave' without taking in to account the word's heritage and its meaning in the true sense. I know what your getting at, but it just shouldn't have been said.
Modern slavery - nah. Being a slave is still being subject to gross mistreatment, regardless of time period. Modern is irrelevant

They recovered pretty quickly after the last world cup when Rooney was apparently going to kick the shit out of him, how many assists did they get this year?
Its just personally hilarious to see the current Champions League and Premiership winners under the spotlight for ridiculous reasons such as these, added to the total hypocrisy of those United fans who shout foul about tapping up- its comedy gold.

The reason most footballers leave a club is because of their own needs. They want to play more games, they want to move to a bigger club, they want to move to a certain area, they want more wages.
It is rarely, if ever, because a player has been maltreated by a club (we are talking proper maltreatment. The club not playing you in the starting 11 doesn't fall under this category). So for that reason, and the fact that even League 2 footballers get paid very well (£2000 a week is what MPs and top Doctors/Lawyers earn) means that footballers can never get "labourers rights".
No player should be allowed to break a contract when he feels like it. The Webster clause is bollocks because it doesn't take into account the value of the player. That's why everyone should do what the Spanish do, put in minimum release clauses. If you want to leave, pay up the minimum fee and you can go.

Having to pay compensation for breaking a contract isn't really going when you want. If you don't play for the club when selected, you are in breach of contract. So yeah you can force them. At the end of the day, if a player is not playing it's to their detriment.
