View Full Version : Do you use the Wiley snare?

This snare is like the amen of grime - my question is do you use it in your productions or do you think it's played out?
I've got it in a sample pack but only ever used it on a 4/4 track (which i think is OK cos I'm the first person to release a bassline track with it on :D)

if you're not sure what I mean check loads of Wiley's old tunes as well as Danny Weed/Jammer/Bless Beats etc, it's that massive snare

I don't use it merely because it's been rinsed and is practically a signature sound. If you're in wiley's circle, it's apparently allowed, but I personally wouldn't.

I've used it in songs I haven't given out. When I used to use a similar snare from Reason (also used on "Way Down The Road" instro) people seemed to think it's the same snare so I stopped using that.

Yeah obviously Wiley didn't create the snare. But I, and a lot of other people, still know it as his sound.

what section/name is it under in plugsounds? I wanna try recreate one of Will's beats

Wiz
29th July '08, 03:43 PM
It's either in the hiphop section or the drum section, it's called the MPC kit - can't remember much more, haven't used the plugin in ages, used one of those sound ripping programs just to get them into WAVs

Nah, i just feel that it helps me learn more if you can remake the beat and see how a producer has done it...can show you things in the program you can add to your tracks...

I used it once but to be honest theres too many snares to stick to one, you should keep switching them up otherwise you begin to have a simular pattern running through all your tracks

used it in some of my earlier productions but it stands out too much and doesn't really suit my producing style.

I have never used it, don't intend to. And tbh, I don't like it. It only sounds good on certain tracks, most track it's used in... it's shit.

I hate that snare Wiley
