No groupie, but 2008 is Boy Better Know's year.

Skepta - Microphone Champion
Frisco - Fully Grown

Boy Better Know - V.I.P.

All albums to be released this year, with every single one of them being a highly anticipated release. No doubt that the added sales figures of everything BBK this year will top anything any other Grime label/crew has ever done. Running the music game this year.

Arguably the biggest thing Boy Better Know are known for in the public eye are their t-shirts. Everyone is doing them, but none of them will ever come close to the popularity of these Ts. Even after the t-shirt scene "died", they still managed to bring it back with the release of the then-new Splash Ts and now the highly, highly anticipated Tropical/Polo Ts. Definitely running the t-shirt game this year.

Always interacting with the people (Wiley on the forums; Jme with his blogs etc.), fans feel closer to BBK than they do with most other Grime acts. This is a key ingredient if you want your fans to actually support you.

Lets not forget "The Sweep Show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-qbtm50epU)" with legend Timmy Mallett. The popularity of this video even got BBK into talks with television studios for their own show. The rolex hype is massive with Wiley's Wearing My Rolex reaching number 2 in the Official UK Charts and Skepta's Rolex Sweep expecting not so high but similar results. Been raving recently? Then you should have noticed big numbered people bussin out the Rolex Sweep on the middle of the dancefloor whenever it came on.

What I personally give Boy Better Know the most props for, is the fact that they did it all on their own. With minimal major backing (Wiley being the minimal) they have set the blue print to making it big independently.

A lot of people see them as just a gimmick. "Ah its BBK, fanboys blah blah Sunjay" but if you notice the situation they are in, you will realise that they are running the scene throughout 2008 and likely, beyond.

I don't think BBK are the most talented musically, but great musical talents in this country have to be doing music other than grime to really hit the heights in the current climate (Amy Winehouse for instance). Not to mention, they make good enough and catchy enough tunes to matter.

The biggest thing that BBK have on their side is the female fanbase...they're nice and accessible to girls innit, and consequently girls like their hype and girls wanna be "famous". If you capture the female market then you're laughing really, and they have certainly busted the wogsocket/myspace market...

It shows the power of having a good business plan & a very effective marketing campaign. The BBK brand is what is making the money for them

JME is always working and is very very professional. How many other MCs would allow going to napa for possibly the whole summer to promote a CD.

A lot of youngsters should learn from what JME has done (and im not just saying that they should make bare t shirts.......work ethic is key)

Im not the biggest fan of the music they make but i cnt say they dont deserve it. There business minded and have got the appeal to crack the mainstream. I wish them the best but i think there are better ppl in the scene that deserve more credit but as a collective they are the front runners.

Obviously it isn't the reason why BBK are big, but the name itself had a lot to do with it IMO.
