Hip-Hop has a few...XXL, The source etc.
Is the genre big enough to have its own monthly mag? Fair enough we have RWD but im talking proper distribution, full reviews of mixtapes/albums. Interviews.
Not some half arse effort that will die off in a few months, im talkin a magazine that will widen the fan base, generate more money so that it can be pumped back into the scene.

Yeh, me and other writers were working on this, like I was going to get Logan Sama to do the Official Grime Chart for the mag.

if it was monthly then it'd work, but there's no where near as much to talk about and fill a magazine with in grime as there is in hip-hop

yea thats what im sayin...if it was monthly then enough news, reviews & interviews would build up to fill an issue.
i think it would help the scene to. If artists knew that there work was goin to be reviewed fairly and seen by the public maybe they would put more effort in.
not that they dnt already but perhaps they would be more punctual with their releases.

The issue is.. after a while you'll just be going on and on about the same old artists..... clashing etc etc etc. Another issue is magazines run on advertising and advertisers want certain things said and not said... they control what you say, if i was to say it in many words. It would be hard to get real big brands interested that would pump money through the mag. Trust me i've studied and it'd fucked!! Basically it would be hard for big advertisers wanting their names along side any artists who promote stabbing etc (that's their view). However you could go down the root with not paying people, and everything is done on your root investment but NOOOOO way will your magazine be pushed out there and distributed like the others. It's a catch 22 situation. Plus when you don't pay people, recognise that most people will be raw and ignore deadlines et etc. Plus remember for magazines YEAH of course you need writers but you need dedicated talented and experienced art directors for layouts and photographers with great cameras. I've tried, plus while also wanting a life and being at uni it's a hugeeeeee thing to tackle.

Main thing is, publishing itself is in trouble... There's some big magazines & publishers struggling rite now. This aint the climate to start a specialist magazine.
Someone needs to start a regularly updated, specialist website like allhiphop i think. That's the future.

Hell no, I'm still working on it.
I was going to annonce it on the rwd forum, but I knew the pressure would have been a lot, like people would have been expecting too much (The Source Mag), then at the end of it we would have made a grime magazine, that's good, but how long would it last for, you can't just make it strictly about grime music, there's no way on earth it's going to last. It has to be really thought through.
I know I'm being very brief, but the other guys like Carter, Logan, Elijah, Tronics ect.. know what I'm talking about...
If you lot strictly want a grime music magazine like allhiphop or the source, then I'm gonna jump out this thread and carry on with the project (magazine) and put it in the direction that I think it should go.

LOL.
But what if they could do it with this domain? www.grimegenre.com.
Therefore you would be creating a brand name as such. Basically an e-zine

Yeah of course go for it.
Like I said Making a strictly grime magazine really wouldn't work at this moment in time, as grime isn't that huge plus of the terrible sales in magazines. But maybe something that linked with lifestyle, politics, music, style within a magazine for Londoners, might do well.

One of the charms of grime is that you have to dig for it. It is ready made for the blogsphere. But I can imagine a XXL-style magazine focussed on grime. Anyone working on this remember DEUCE? Another point of reference for you might be WOOFAH (http://www.woofahmag.com).

Grime magazine would not work.
Dubstep. Grime. Bassline . + any garage off shoots would work tho.
It would sell In london, midlands and even Newcastle ways.
I like the idea of no divide between the garage off shoots.

and ive got the domains grimetalk.com and grimetalk.co.uk, thats a brandable name for a magazine? could get some sort of online thing going magazine style. Then if it gets to a point where enough people are reading each monthly or quaturly issue then taking it to advertisers and publishers would be easier?

Very true still..
All that we are gonna talk about is Wiley releasing inconsistent cds upon cds and Newham Generals delaying their release for years.
A grime magazine is a openly welcomed idea.. but I think making it monthly is too short.. An issue of the mag every 2 or 3 months should be alright still.
