I've got a good squad at West ham, I'm in my 3rd season and my team are performing pretty badly I'm 14th when I should be 5th/6th/7th.

As I've got a decent squad I think its down to the formation and tactics. Can anyone give me some advice on how to get that killer edge in front of goal or stop my defence leaking goals?

I've been playing 4-4-2 this season, which worked for a bit, and 4-1-3-1-1 last season which worked until this season. The formations just seem to stop working :dead:

deep line of defence , hard tackling, target man, direct passing = top 7 finish

i play 5-4-1

2 CB
2 WB
1 DM
4AM
1 Striker

get a strong/tall CB and they will score 30+ a season from corners alone.
has happened with every team i play with

almost any formation can be successful with the right players in the correct positions

I play this against the big 4 and have relative success, i thought it was a bit negative to play it all the time.

4-4-2

two pacey wingers with good crossing

have one centre mid who's good defensively, ie positioning, anticipation, marking & tackling. Give him dm instruction.

other cm should be good at passing, creativity & decisions. give him creative freedom.

team instructions: focus passing down flanks, mixed passing. set creative mid as playmaker

Thats generally what I play and it normally works but this season it seems to be a dud.

Post up your team

Green
Faubert--Collocini--Dunne--Bridge
Bentley--Parker--Appiah--N'Zogbia
Ashton--Yakubu/Quagliarella

but I also have

Krancjar
Arshavin (Just bought him so haven't tried him out yet)
Makoun
Pedretti
Defoe
Simao

Obviously i've got others byut these are the ones that could potentially improve the team.

cordoba is a disgusting CB
and my fav little known player is Didier Kone from rosenbourg(i think...some team in norway atleast) played well in every team ive bought him for.
And julio cesar from olympiakos is pretty good aswell.

i mostly play as lesser known teams, so i know more about lesser known players

Hmmm. In an average season how may goals do you score and how many do you concede? Need to work out if it's a leaky defence or misfiring strikers that are the issue. I'm assuming Ashton is your target man?

Sell Ashton or Yakubu.

And buy Gignac.

Parker & appiah are both holding players in the centre, i'ds be very tempted to start pedretti instead of one of them as he's an excellent playmaker. i'd play simao intead of probably N'zogbia as he's a better winger.

defoe will give you some variation up front compared to the others, arshavin needs to be fitted in somewhere. i'd maybe try

faubert - collocini - dunne - bridge

makoun - pedretti

simao/bentley - arshavin - N'Zogbia

defoe/ashton/yakubu/qualiadsgwegf

the noticable thing is your defence is getting worse, looking at your team you maybe need stronger full backs defensively

Get a new right back.

Then 2 new strikers.

If you get the right players then you should be fine.

Sorry I put them backwards (i've turned them round now), I think last season my strikers were a big let down, I changed it towards the end (by adding Arshavin as an attacking force in midfield) and they picked up (Ashton in particular). I'm looking to add a striker to my squad to freshen it up.

The team I played towards the end that did better was

Green
Faubert--Coloccini--Dunne--Bridge
Bentley--Makoun--Arshavin--Quagliarella
Ashton--Yakubu
