View Full Version : The Official Carter Review Of Rage - Streets Of Rage

Carter
4th February '08, 01:53 PM
Been waiting for this release since I heard Rage on Risky Roadz 2 and 16 Bar Rally.......heard a few good tracks on his myspace but I wasn't sure if he could pull off a whole mixtape.

http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/9763/imagephpro9.jpg

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/460/image1phptp1.jpg

Quick rundown of the standout tracks on this mixtape:

Evacuate (ft. Lex) - Great start to the CD, I think this is the second time, I've heard Lex on an actual song.....very impressive!?! Rage and Lex spit some straight gully bars over some intense beat, some epic fight music right here!

The Don't Want It - Another grim track, Rage sprays some radio bars like "You spit like its really on, but deep in your heart in not what you're really on....." The mixdown a bit rough to enjoy this track but you can't deny the bars are sick and the dark beat is good but suffers from the poor mixdown

Action Man (ft. Lex) - Rage & Lex team up again and shower down this Heavy Trackers beat! The song has a great hook "You wanna talk like you're action man, but I'm hearing all talk no action man"

Make Dat Paper - Everything Slew Dem Crew does best..real street talk over grimey dramatic beats! Not sure who produced it, I think its Top Dolla.....good track

Determination (ft. Misty) - Fucking love this track, Misty is a very big vocalist who makes great hooks and the beat provided Siryus (I think?) makes it easy for Rage to get his war stories across without sounding forced.......great song!

Streets Of Rage - Some mad beat with with Rage spitting with a rapid flow

Real Rasta 07 (ft. DM) - I not really like this track because of DM's hook but Rage is still on point with the bars and DM impresses with his verse. The beat is good too....I think its Top Dolla???

Real Woman (ft. Misty) - Wow somebody pulls off a wifey tune without it sounding like some cheese ball Ja Rule rip off and its someone from Slew Dem Crew......weird I know!?!?!?! lol! I'm getting to like this Misty girl, and Rage together on tracks! Top Dolla on production, great grime beat!

Done It All - Gritty street tale that is very relevant to whats going on with youths today in England! Talk of jacking phones and snatching handbags with a good hook

Heard Them Spit (ft. StanaMan & Lex) - Hype ting.....Lex spraying those Risky Roadz 2 bars over another banger! StanaMan kills the track "StanaMan aka Homocide".......fuck off!!! lol

Grime Riddim (ft. Lex) - Rage & Lex ripping Waifer's Grime Riddim to pieces...nuff said really!

Rage Freestyle (ft. Wiley & Jammer) - Very good Top Dolla beat Jammer spits some old bars that I've heard on a few tracks but Wiley mixes it up a bit and pulls it off!

Do It For The Fame (ft. Esco, Chronik & G-Man) - Dirty Waifer beat with a good hook alongside some shower bars from the camp.......G-Man>>>>>>>________________

Roll Up To The Shubz (ft. Shorty Smalls, G-Man & Chronik) - I wanna hear more G-Man & Waifer, these mans are too quiet in the scene but always impress and Shorty Smalls & Chronik are always improving as this song proves

Impressive debut from Rage, the cd showcases his song writing talent and other talented acts like Lex, Top Dolla, Misty, StanaMan and Heavy Trackers! Lyrically Rage holds it up on tracks with some of the best like Wiley & Esco.......I hope to hear more from him soon......solo and as part of a group effort from Slew Dem Crew (come on its time now, Slew Dem Crew group project is needed)

Waiting is missing from the tracklisting though........WHAT THE FUCK!?!
kYhhrNr98JM

2008 is looking good so far......

Tracks to check:
Grime Riddim
Do It For The Fame
Roll Up To The Shubz
Real Woman
Determination

Sounds good though, may have to check it out anyway

Why leave out the Hip Hop tracks on this review and not on others???

Evacuate is gully!!!

If I was a boxer that would be my theme

Carter is right its perfect fighting music

Things which were shit about this CD were:

The Reloads (Rewinds are for a set not a CD)
The Mix downs, some of the vocal are hard to hear and the bass sounds distorted on some tracks

But I am going to buy this, Evacuate is worth a fiver alone

JACK

Theres one or two Hip-hoppish tracks

One is just a freestyle over a US beat

Apart from that they are all grime

Oh yer and the reloads, basically its plays the tracks for 30 secs then somebody shouts 'pull up!' then it starts from the beginning - I know, its gay.

is it mostly grime then?

Actually put it this way

Theres 20 tracks on the CD

Carter reviewed about 10 of them becuase if he had harshly judged this mix cd as harshly as he did with others, just because its has hip hop on it - He would not have been able to justify the 8/10

In other Carter reviews are bias and air

But it is a good CD

i quite agree with u here man, although, his reviews are never taken serious, its just pure entertainment, he aint got no competences to be taken serious (actually i think all reviewers are a waste of space tbh, how man can tell me wats good wats not...).

but back to the point, its a better fun to cause controversy than to write wot everyone else writes (or in dis case, write something else than wot he usually writes lol)

mine came yday and after listening to it properly the cd's quite big imo, tracks like make dat paper, streets of rage, streets raised me and evacuation r the best on there imo. The hip hop tracks where okayish nuffin special but i did really like one or two, the pull ups r shit man make the cd sound cheap i hate it when artists have that on a cd aint it like so 90's now? Big CD tho deffo worth a blue, couple feature tunes are big lex sounds like hes got alot 2 say and alot to give and im lookin forward 2 ne fin new off him. grime beats where grimey, hip hop beats where horrible but he made way wiv some, wudnt give it 8/10 like carter did more like a 6.5/10 or 7/10 tho.

RAISED BY WOLVES
1st April '08, 06:47 PM
I liked that he rapped over an AZ beat on there, even though it wasn't the best track. That makes him and Goodz two of the few grime artists who choose proper american hip-hop beats to spit over.

Overall, I was really impressed. It sounds fairly "complete" compared to a lot of recent mix cd releases.
