View Full Version : Your England Team?

What would your starting line up be?
James
Richards Ferdinand Terry Cole
Wright-Phillips Hargreaves/Barry Gerrard Cole
Owen Rooney
The only position I'm not sure about is that holding midfield role, Barry has impressed me a lot, but I think hargreaves is proabably the better player.

Explanation
I'd have James in goal with Glen Johnson(right back of the season), Ferdinand, Terry & Ashley Cole as my defenders. I'd have Hargreaves just in front of the defenders in that Mackalele role to provide protection to the back 4. Ashley young provides natural width & is also a goal threat from the right wing. I'd have Gerrard as an AM supplyin killer passes from the middle of the park with Joe Cole on the left, naturally J Cole will cut inside but A Cole will provide width with his tireless runs down the left flank. I'd have Crouch playin off Defoe.

Defoe gets too flukey i think. Owen is making his fair share of his assists as well as banging in a few goals.

3-4-2-1 business. Joe Cole is wasted on the left wing, and Rooney needs someone to work with upfront.

4-4-2 - a diamond shaped midfield so the idea is the team plays in triangles mainly.
Goalie: James
Defense: A. Cole, Terry, R. Ferdinand (not sure who i'd have on right back)
Midfield:
Hargrieves holding midfielder
Joe Cole on the left
Becks on the right
Gerrard/Lampard attacking midfield
Forwards: Rooney & Crouch

Thats what I was thinkin, alot of people are pickin the current waste startin line up, if england are gonna get better we have to take a chance on some new players which is why I chose Glen Johnson & Ashley young, alot of Steve Mclaren's in here still!

Some people may think that the players are fine but the formation is wrong. Bar Hargreaves. Mine's not that different to the current starting line up, But I think Joe Cole should be played through the middle and England should play 3 at the back.

I basically made the thread to see how many people put Lampard and Gerrard in, it seems like loads of people wouldn't mind seeing one of em dropped.
The players I would like to see given a chance are David Bentley and Jermain Defoe, maybe Dean Ashton if he gets back on from I think he could do a good job.

You put Bently & Barry in your team so it wasnt directed at you, im talkin about the people that have lampard & Garrard in the middle, it's been proven that it just doesnt work!

I still think gerrard & lampard can work as long as they have a holding player behind them & someone to hold the ball up in the final third

He can bring success to England, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney & Stevie Gerrard are the key.

You can't have Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney all in the same team imo. They'd just get in the way of each other in that "hole" area.
Gerrard >>>>>>>> Lampard.
So get rid of Fat Frank.

They get in eachothers way, it happens everytime they play together, we need to break out of this mentality or england will be shit team for a long time.

I agree if you get rid of one its got to be lampard. He's a completely different player at club level compared to international

typical england tactics though, scholes is your best midfielder yet you move him to the left to accomodate the rest.
I think capello's got a great opportunity to start afresh & drop a few aging & underperforming players. Beckham should be left out as he's no longer of use & owen should only be picked if he stays fit and gets goals for newcastle

Beckham still has some use imo. 10 minutes left, you are 1-0 down and you need some quality long balls/crosses etc. Becks is your man to bring on.
