Yeah they're quite hard, depending on how you play them.

You can just go through every level, tranquilising the guards from far away so there's no one to catch you, making it easy, or you can stealthily sneak past them, which is really hard to do sometimes, and also takes a lot of time.

If you haven't played it before, it's hard to get used to, but when you're used to it it's fucking sick trust. Game of the year so far imo... (just in front of GTA) :D

It is amazing. I thought it was difficult at the beginning , got alerts all the time. Got the hang of it after a while though. I think I'm soon finished with Act 2. Haven't tried online yet, but I was on the beta.

Nah man the ending is irrelevant if you haven't played through the third one. Metal Gear 1 is quite important, although I'll admit I don't remember much from it, but Metal Gear 2 and 3 are what you need to properly make sense of the story.

I would agree with this. to be fair I would just say 1 and 2 are just as relevant and 3 isn't needed at all.

At the end of the day, most people will have played all three anyway, or at least 2 and 3 on PS2.

Regardless of how relevant to the fourth one they are, Metal Gear 3 was my favourite. Imo Metal Gear 4 was more about the storyline than the actual gameplay, and I feel like I spent more time watching cut scenes than playing the game, although the cut scenes and the way the story was wrapped up were brilliant.
But the only real MGS stlye sneaking you done was in acts 1 and 2, seeing as you were (*possible spoiler*) following some guy in act 3, and sneaking past machines that couldn't hear you in act 4.

In the thrid one, you were sneaking the whole time, you could use your surroundings for camouflage much better, and the boss battles were better (especially The End).

Imo it was a better game, and when they made MGS 4 they were thinking about the storyline more than they were about the actual gameplay.

I've never played MGS1, but I get the story. Still wished I played it though. I'm thinking about putting MGS1 on my PSP now though, lol.

Anyways, the ending in MGS4 is SICK. A bit more gameplay wouldn't hurt though. It's a sick game, but Act 3 was just a joke for me. Following some guy around the whole map without really thinking yourself, then a boss, and you're done. There should have been more gameplay like in Act 1 in the following acts.


And Scribbler, I'm not really sure which were better, MGS2 or MGS3, but after playing MGS4 I really understood why they made Snake Eater they way they did. Made a lot more sense now.

And yeah that fight you're doing is pretty hard. Just try to keep dodging to the side every time he says: "take this!" then beat him up.

I did it on hard mode. Believe me, the X button is your friend. I did it first time thoe lol, I learnt from the first fight n was ok.
remember if you dont press a direction with X you will just duck. In general Keep pressing back and x to avoid his random hits... Only strike when there is an opening otherwise you will get caught off.

You only really need them for Act 4 anyway. And you CAN get by without them, but it's a lot slower. If you are going for the Big Boss Emblem on Extreme you need to be as fast as possible (although people have finished 1:15 early so time isn't always a factor).

MGS4, went hard on this game, got it 2 days after it came out then clocked it the next day after I got it.
Me and some friends are gonna play all of them in the order of 3,1,2 then 4. Just to get all the storyline in one. Oh, and the database out on download helps you understand alot of things O.o

Innit. The way the music started going as if he weren't going to make it, otagon is begging you not to give up and showing raiden, jonny & meryl mei ling all about to meet their end. The first time I played it I was genrally worried that he was going to kick it. No character in any game or film has that impact on me.

It comes with 5 metal gear games and if you've never played them it's worth getting and even if u have played them the collection has the upgraded MGS3 and MGS PW which was a PSP exclusive. If you ain't played the first one I think there's a run through of events of what Happened at shadow Moses on MGS2.

Saying that, I still don't fully understand the story now and I love MGS. Pred is the man to talk to when it comes to MGS though.

I ordered the Jak & Daxter collection the same time i ordered the MGS HD Collection. I was gassed when I saw it at the bottom of the page on Amazon, didn't even know they were making one and was discussing the idea of them bringing back the Jak & Daxter series cos that's defo one of my favourite series.

No complaints. Outside of reliability, as long as it's a 2.5" drive in SATA-300 mode, you're set. 5400rpm is usually what people get, as 7200rpm doesn't make much of a difference, and nor does SSD.

Fun fact: I have 293 GB of 596 GB remaining. PS+ has done a number on it :laugh:

That's a sick trophy list. A lot of easy bronzes, but it encourages a varied play-style. You do things you might forget about, so it actually makes you have fun. I need to do a hectic piss around run for that corpse camo though.

Yep. I imagine to Big Boss rank it, you either have to learn to manipulate things to create a route much quicker than the standard, or Youtube the hell out of the best strategy. It's such a slow act that I don't pay too much attention to it.

I remember that act - one of them ones that just frustrates you. The way he keeps running off and the whistling lol. Gotta admit some of the best cut-scenes were in that act.

I've completed it on all difficulties but only snook through without being seen on one of the easier difficulty's.

TrueGrimeMan I managed a 0 alert/0 kill run, but on Hard. I hear to do the same on Extreme you have to make perfect use of the 5 chaff grenades you get in the entire run, and also the emotion-inducing smoke grenades. I predict a hell of a lot of trial and error.

Apparently the chase scene in the 2nd half of Act 3 is an absolute cunt. You need amazing accuracy and luck to get through. Perfect usage of the solar gun (if only it was a daytime act) and everything else. I suppose if you're used to Extreme it's not as bad, but from what I've read...

There's a new thread on NeoGAF, and the first 5 or so posts are a trophy guide (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=485512). It takes a minimum of 8 play-throughs to get the platinum.

And one has to be 35 hours in total for the chicken emblem. To be efficient, it requires a lot of "set up and leave for an hour" stuff like leaning on a wall, crouching, crawling for an hour (elastic band required) stuff and some grinding-type stuff like forward rolls and side rolls. Also racking up 500 kills, that sort of thing. I think I'll do that last, over the course of a week or so. With a spreadsheet to track my progress.

Just finished mine. Act 3 wasn't that bad in the end, just cheap deaths. For sneaking, there were only really a couple of difficult parts:
•Act 1 just before the Mk.II
•Act 2 first area (the rest is just knowing the best route)

Act 4 is a joke when you have chaffs tbh. Ignore the first Gekko, chaff the tank storage, go right, then left (round the back of the 2nd Gekko), lay down and snipe the Gekko near the lab, go up, snipe the 2nd Gekko to instantly open the door, boss, chaff the furnace, tap a wall to lure a Gekko then chaff, run through, chaff again and run straight for the exit (did it first time), chaff the last room, fully charged shot with the Solar gun on Vamp for instant "kill", inject, then last bits.

Act 5 was very simple and only took 2 attempts at the first area (crawl down the left side and headshot all enemies, chaff, in the door, bosses, done). I did mess up on Mantis though, I knocked the doll out of her hand then went to fire a shot with it just as she swiped at me. The bitch executed me.
