Because they cannot cope with the high-intensity midweek European games alongside with the Premiership games as well as United and Chelsea. Their worst performances this season have been after a Champions League game. The further they progress in the CL, the more points in the Premiership they will lose. If they get knocked out they'll be able to concentrate on the league - not a good thing if you don't want them to take 4th spot.

They still have Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool away to play.
