@MMD:
What this comes from is a discussion we had last night on MSN. The jist of it is basically the scene started with a strong instrumental focus with MCs basically being an added extra. The focus was on the DJs and the instrumentals/vinyls.
It then tried to transition from this form of dance music (which was why it became popular) to a form of rap, with the focus on the MCs (who now want to be artists) so producers are making tracks primarily to have vocals on them. The dance/rave element fades away, but you have more of an ability to a scene with CDs as the focus on lyrics forces a upgrade in lyrical content.
Last night I was saying the dance music days were better, but I've just had a thought. 2004 was one of the best years of Grime, and it was basically a middle ground between the two ideologies of what grime should be. But still, I'm still focussed towards the dance music side, because that's where the scene came from, it's why Grime became popular and instrumentals and DJ focussed scenes work. I think mixtapes should be a section within the scene, instead of the scene itself.

I said dance cos this is what Grime is missing right now, beats have slowed down too much and all the emphasis is on the bars. Dont mean I want to lose the MCs tho, just for them to spit on beats like the old days.

it doesnt matter the fact u said bassline mean your statement was bullshit.
Grime music is typified by complex 2-step breakbeats, generally around 130 beats per minute and constructed from unorthodox sounds.[1] Stylistically, grime takes from many genres including UK Garage, dancehall and hip hop.[2] The lyrics and music combine futuristic electronic elements and dark, guttural bass lines. The rapped lyrics will often contain jabs at other musicians, and concerts are often organized as battles between competing performers, rather than simply performances.[1] As the genre has developed the lyrical themes have incorporated social and political commentary as well.[3] Due to its experimental nature and diverse stylistic influences, artists involved in the grime scene initially resisted attempts to classify or pigeonhole the style, resulting in a range of different labels, including sublow, 8bar, and eskibeat. Grime is sometimes associated with dubstep, a similar but largely instrumental genre which also evolved from the early 2000s UK garage scene.[4][

mc's have always been secondary to me, for me its always been about the beats, in fact i would be happy if grime was an instrumental genre (not that i dont like MCs). i want the scene to be a DJ and producer lead scene where MCs are secondary

You've missed the point. Grime was never dance. Except the 4x4 tunes.
Dance music is tipified but not restricted to the 4x4 drum pattern, which very very few grime tracks have used.

dance music = rave culture centred around clubs & radio with MCs there to add hype to host sets for the djs. Most common form of release would be singles followed by EPs.
form of Rap = MC based music with focus on mixtapes/albums. Instrumentals are made to be vocalled & live performances are PAs/Stage shows.

Pulse X and Eskimo are grime. Dance music is not grime. It's not that hard to grasp.
Maybe you enterep "dance" differently. Refer to Dollie's post about MTV Dance for how I percieve "dance music".
Someone needs to define what "dance" means in terms of this topic. Whether it means 4x4 styles or rave culture like others have said.

What do u define DnB, Jungle & Dubstep as then Statuz?
I've never known the difference between D&B and Jungle except that jungle seems a bit harder and heavier while D&B can come soulful and vocal
Same with dubstep, dubstep is like minimal grime, running at halfstep without any of the main musical elements but plrenty of harsh percussion and sub
Everyone interprets stuff differently though
And everyone wants to listen to something else
So trying to conform a bunch of artists to one "type" or "style" of grime, which itself is a type and style, it just too much pigeonholing

Dance in this sense wasn't meant as dance lets take a old tune speed up the vocal as quickly as we can and wave around glow sticks to it sense. Was meant as music that you can dance to in general.
