View Full Version : How Do You View Violence In Lyrics?

Obviously it gets you hype, in the same way a film or wrestling can.
As it is entertainment and I don't live that life or condone what they do, I guess I see it in the same way I see other forms of entertainment (games, books, films), and just as fiction. It's perhaps quite ironic, as they say these lyrics to be 'real'.
What's your opinion?

The music is good so I could care less about what they do.

just entertainment, the whole life imitating art thing the media seem to be caught up on with hip-hop and grime is bullshit

"We live in the poorest borough in England and we haven't all had perfect happy family lives so if the MCs didn't cover it in some way we'd be lying, but we all went to school and got brought up properly. We're not just some moody hood-rats, we've got something to say."

I think that sums it up
I find people who criticise grime due to the violent lyrics don't understand what 'hype' is, I just don't think some people 'get it'
^^^Agree with above though, when its being used as a substitute all the time for decent lyrics then that's waste
I think an MC who combines the two very well is P. Money

its not the lyrics that are the problem, music is music, but its the way the MCs conduct themselves out of music seeing as they are role models that matter. plus kids need to realise its just music and most MCs dont practice what they preach.

most kids do realise that, the ones who are easily influenced by violent lyrics would probably be violent even if they didnt hear the lyrics

It's the same with games...but dumb parents and the media don't realise it. I hate the media.

Music is just like the movies, drama sells.......even Lily Allen, Pete Doherty & Amy Winehouse embrace the lawbreaking outlaw image......it sells!
I have grown up around most of these acts (my school was at the back of Stratford Rex) and yeah its just lyrics to me, but im fully aware that some of what i am hearing is reality........Ghetto, G-Force, Marcus Nasty, Slew Dem Crew......ect..

but that wouldnt matter to the media if they expressed it thru another medium, like in a book

People love to buy into acts that have violent, tough or grim lyricism. It's escapism for them. Gets them out of their boring situations for the duration of a song. Only right-wing pricks (cameron, daily mail, etc) and utter retards think that life imitates art. Art imitates life.

for me personally content could never get me hpe if the flow behind it is shit whereas a good flow and rubbish content could easily get me hype

well its just words
if someones weak enough to let it take them over to the point of actual influence and action then thats their own problem
plus if thats the mcs go through then why shouldnt they talk about it? as long as they dnt chat about it all the time

It's not like MCs are chatting about something that isn't there. Address the causes of the problems Boris, don't focus on music.
