Some of us kind of got into this before in another thread.
This is a thread to write down issues and solutions or a guide to what you think artists/producers/ DJ's should be/shouldn'be doing so that we get what we want, in the manner that we want. Constructive criticism, Allow the dumb comments.
Thanks

Rule 1: Don't give out tunes too early, make sure you n your release so if delays do occur you're fully prepared.
Rule 2: Don't, I repeat don't release or let the mc or producer (either one) track that track and put it on their mixtape. BECAUSE the buyers end up spending their money and before they've even bought it they have some of the tracks already - IT'S A PAR. (Disclaimer: only if it is the biggest banger of that year is this allowed)
Rule 3: MAKE IT WORTH THE MONEY... AND MAKE IT GOOD MUSIC THAT YOU COULD PROUD OFF. Because a bad release ill make sure people will never buy your music/products again.
Rule 4: DON'T do recordshop exclusives - It maybe a quick p but grime is a small community and by cutting your market down even more you're hitting your chances of ever selling all your stock.

Exactly! and i would just like to add on a personal note. If a track does become big enough! GET IT ON VINYL! with an instrumental to add! And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Pay someone to do your artwork properly! Home made photoshoping is NOT A GOOD LOOK! It will affect your what could be a good mixtape/album allot more than you think! And with the amount of talent on myspace/facebook that are young and affordable you have no excuses.
imo if a producer makes a big riddim yh he should let the mc come 2 his studio and record the vocal in that studio not sending out the full tune if u see what happend 2 certain tunes its swag hearing bare vocals with the same riddim

Someobody needs to set up a proper label within Grime, just like Zinc did with Bingo Beats (D&B) or Kode 9 did with Hyperdub (Dubstep)
They need to:
-Be consistent (too many grime labels have 1 or 2 releases then stop there)
-Have proper artwork (give people more reason to want a vinyl rather than an MP3
-Have an A&R and release a variety of artists (no matter their style, connections or stature in the scene)
-Release on various platforms to make it accessible to others (same releases on vinyl, CDS/CDEP & MP3)
-Re-releases (think how many more copies of Eskimo wiley would have sold if he re-pressed when they sold-out)
EDIT: I forgot
-Proper distribution through distro companies so you releases are everywhere (instead of just dropping off 10 vinyls to your local record shop)
-Proper advertising banners on you myspace saying 'coming soon' just ain't cutting it
I have said this many times on various forums and I would seriously do it if I had the funds, but at the moment I just don't

dont no really need managers although they would help. However just upping your levels of professionalism, being easy to get hold of and turning up for bookings and releasing something when you say you will around the same time you said you would - would be enough for me.

- Don't advertise a release date until you're absoultely certain it can be ready by then.
- No bait hip hop on a grime mixtape
- No half arsed efforts, I felt like Bless beats threw together a few tracks he had lying about

1. Producers should make actual GRIME choons
2. They should not had them to any Tom Dick or Hagrid because they new them from school.
3. Release them before the hype dies.
4. Don't advertise a release date when they havent even been to a pressing plant.
5. When and official and certain release date is announced promote their arses off!

I know theres a number of grime blogs about, but I think approaching the 'bloghouse' model might help, where bloggers post new tracks regularly so anyone can have a listen and small time dj's (like myself) can get access to cdq copies of tunes to play out.
Releasing a track on your myspace will get hype, but allow playing a low quality myspace rip in a club. I know loads of (non grime) dj's that get most of their new material off the hype machine.

The thing about posting tracks on blogs is HARD.. I used to do that alllllll the time. but it gets you in trouble, most the stuff I put on there I have to get permission of some sort off the producer/artist and that is someeeeeeee lonngness and most are like nah nah nah that's for the mixtape. It's hard and long. That's why I started up doing that digital outbreak otherwise at least I know it won't be turning up somewhere else, which makes it become anyyyy old tune.

I think most of the bloghouse tracks are sent to the blogger by the artist tho to get some pre release hype, then filter down to other blogs who want a piece of the action. If grime artists were keen to embrace the blog release scene and release a couple of tracks off a mixtape after it's gone to big name djs but before it's released in shops... basically the same as posting it on your myspace... ish

Who remembers Deuce magazine from way back when they actually did a garage/grime/dubstep tutorial on how to break into the scene and shit - it was a lot at the time, probably mostly true now ... wish I had it around.

I'd disagree ... every artist/producer/DJ needs a manager if they're serious. And not just the guy that did business at school but a serious manager.
The reason being - the artist should spend every possible minute they can being creative ie making/recording a tune, writing bars etc. ... it gets long when a producer has to sit on mySpace theirself and deal with messages that are basically just slowing their career down.
A manager is there to filter out the crap or irrelevant messages but to pass on any good messages, sort out bookings and handle promo/negotiations etc.
Is anyone in grime professionally managed?

I undestand your wave length and I would advice people on certain levels to go the managers way but at this precise moment it's more about the attitudes of the artists I'm not asking them to be next years apprentice but it helps to understand how things work and having a good attitude/level of professionalism helps. There is a downside to managers as some can be very controlling, stealing money all them ones!

Yeah yeah, the artist needs to know the music industry aswell.
Do you have any details for Ghetto's management at all?

Ghetto is one of the few artists I've never had any contact with although I've tried hard. Goodz was really cool though, quick, professional reply.
If you do come across Ghetto's management contacts, I'd appreciate you PMing them through if that's OK? I can PM you and let you know why I need/want them if you need to know why.

One of the most important things for artists and producers to do is join prs www.mcps-prs-alliance.co.uk/. It costs ?100 one of fee and you get money everytime your track is played on legal radio.

either hire a manager or some1 like a P.A
for myspace, sorting out bookings, transport hotels etc, getting P off various ppl, sorting out pressing, sending tunes out to various dj's etc
there is a lot of work needed to be a big artist

Im going to do a category on Grimepedia for 'Help'.
'Suggestions from Fan's' is what this would come under and be put in that category.
But other stuff like
Mixing Down
Networking
Adlib Help
Anything that can be suggested about, written down and added to the help section.
Anyone want to help volunteer take the good bits from this and help me put it together into a page?

I'll help with stuff, just let me know what you need.
Don't mind writing blocks or tutorials or something either for the site if you let me know specifically what you need.
