Depends on your music ability.
If your not good in the first place and you have a lucky hit...do a smash and grab, make as much money as you can and get out, cause it wont last.
If you have talent and integrity, build a solid foundation and money will eventually be a byproduct of the legacy you've left behind.

Expecting people to be able to do music without making money is retarded.

if you're good at your music people will pay you to do it. if you've blown and you're still not making money you're either a bring in or your not really that good. good music and money come hand in hand.

should be about music, people in the scene should learn their craft. do it for the love of their music. master their flow, learn how to make beats (grime is one of the easiest forms of music as you can use your own rules in it.
alot of mc's just think about the money which means that creativity in grime will suffer as all mc's do is copy a blueprint of what mc's on a higher level have done.
its quite embarrassing at time tbh.
dizzee gets bigger off using lilly allen and famous colabs............ mc's start using the likes of kate nash
kano and others stays at the top using alot of hip hop in his music............ mc's start focusing on hip hop
wiley makes a successful house tune............ mc's start trying to make their very own electro house hit.
Tinchy makes a cheese album........... people will start looking for that bait rnb pop tune...............its embarrassing tbh
in the scene there are a number of artists who have their own style and sound and they should be looking at ways to perfect that sound to create an original sounding album in which they can use mc's success to create a few tracks which may have more potential to get radio 1 play.
look at how different grime music can sound and the direction it can take if say tempz, jme, dot rotten, trim, ghetto, griminal all released an album at the same time. their albums would sound so different and fresh......... people don't need to jump on bandwagons just develop their own style and go for what music they love and not for money.
if you're good money will come. tinchy stryder will be no one commercially in a year or so. his time will be done pretty much and then what??? tbf he still reps grime so he should be ok but wouldnt people rather have the career of someone like roots manuva who has respect and will have earned money over time, from making good music that has seen his gradual progress.
do music for the love. get a day job and do it until you blow (if you blow)

Isn't it ironic as Tinchy and Dizzee's bank balances sour, their music degrades in quality.

Should be both. People don't like to assosciate art and money but you should be paid for your abilities if you're worthy.

'tis a rare being who can mix artistry with marketability.
Dizzee is the only one that's managed it properly, imo.
Wiley deserved it more than anyone so he gets a bly

Music is about the money, like every other job in the world eventually it boils down to the making of money, you can agree or disagree with this statement but this is a universal truth of this world.
However there are those who can make money whilst making good music, Nas etc. (too late to think of otha artists).

was tryna explain this to my boy the other day
everyone wants to be a Lil' Wayne straight away
why not strive to stabilise an underground scene so that you can make money off music that you're respected for
these pop tunes = laziness
