Drums pattern don't have to be complicated, listen to a mainstream tune, they're usually quite simple with small elements in the beat.

It was a simple beat i put together in about half an hour the other night.

It's much catchier than a beat produced with lots of effects, lots of sounds, tons of layers, badly sequenced beats and melodies that are either too complicated or are just crap and not rememberable.

Quality over quantity is always best...
