Basically the choice is between American games dedicated to 360 like Halo and Dead or Alive, or stuff dedicated to Playstation like Tekken. Plus depends if you really want a BluRay dvd drive to play BluRay dvd's too.
Most big games are over all consoles anyway.
I can tell you on GrimeForum there's 42 Xbox 360 people to 22 PS3 who put themselves in this section. But then about 2-3 of them own both lol.
360 is like £160 now though, and PS3 is like £300 still.
360 games are £40, dunno what PS3 is like now was £50, even online.
360 Live >>> PS3 Live, cause they've been doing it bout 3years longer. Xbox Live is 5years old now.
A PS fan will say opposite though. I used to be a PS fan, but they don't even like EU customers, they took ages to launch here. I lost interest in Playstation when Xbox came along, even with the bigger controllers, which are perfect hand size now on 360.
Other than that, all the major games are gonna look the same in both, cause their both being manufactured to launch together, PS3 won't get to use much of it's extra power. Specially won't notice without high def.

PS3
HD DVD Is dead now and thats what the xbox uses, HD DVD will cease production or some shit. Blu Ray is now the standard. Also you have games like Metal Gear Solid coming out, you dont have to pay an online subscription and I think its like £260 now and you wont get a Blu Ray player for that cheap alone atm.
Ive confused myself and probably you but holla on msn and I'll chat some more shit.

Xbox 360 isn't using HD DVD. You can buy an external HD drive, which is now next to useless, although they released alot of HD DVDs, which would run on it.
It's weather your really gonna buy HD dvds, i barely buy dvds, let alone HD ones.
On 360 you can download HD video, burn it to a disc and play it on 360.

Well I'm not realy into any of that fanboy ish but I own a 360 so I'll break down a few things.
360 has some killer exclusive titles.... gears of war, bioshock oh and exclusive DLC for GTA, but to be fair PS3 has gran turismo... but do you like racing games?
Yeah PS3 has blu-ray but are you gonna by the dvd's and do you have a HD TV?
Never played on PSN so can't comment, but from what I've heard XBOX LIVE is much better but you do have to pay to go online and this isn't just giving microsoft pennies they actually invest in the service, marketplace, 24 hr support, messaging services etc...
And finally I chose a 360 because they had a solid ammount of games good exclusive titles and I also knew people who owned them.
It's what suits you at the end of the day, they are both really good consoles.

Dunno.
My mate has both PS3 and 360 (Rich Cunt!), and he just plays 360 online now. Cause he just didn't really enjoy PS3 the same, and plus everyone has 360.
Also not all Xbox's get the 3 red lights. Although i've gone through a few 360s. Elites seem way better, and the white ones seem alright if their made after a certain date.
Plus if you buy it from a shop then you get to go back and get a brand new one in exchange.

lol. Ps3 is pretty unlikely to overtake 360 now. Like Xbox never over took the PS2. The fact it had more power never made a difference cause everyone had a PS2 and wouldn't swap for small difference. Even Wii out sells PS3.
Playstation messed up the PS3's plans multiple times, and kept changing stuff, they even made a console case that didn't fit everything inside. Then launching it 3months+ later in EU and stopping importing, made it all so long and has harmed their sales. People just went and bought a 360.

the xclusive DLC for gta what is it about
The downloadable content for the 360 will be TWO episodes which will take place in Liberty City. This is the equivalent to having a game the size of san andreas interms of missions that you can buy and play in Liberty City. So it is essentialy new missions but it is a complete story, which could have totally different chracters, radio stations, vechiles etc but still uses the Libery City background. There isn't just one of these but two.
This is no longer just hype talk Microsoft paid $50 mil for both stories, the GTA 4 posters that you will see from now on have information about the DLC and the first episode will be available from August.

Exactly...couple years, a couple years can be quite a long time. PS3 will have the best games soon enough. They have support from all the main Japanese games developers. They got MGS4, Gran Turismo 5, FF13 to name a few which are sequels to some of the best games ever made.
Also you say allow buying a console just for blu ray and ask how many people who buy a ps3 own a HD TV but you cant really question that as a factor as if you get HD graphics on a non HD tv with an Xbox.
Again, Ive confused myself.

It's a personal thing, you can't let the masses dictate what you'd be best buying.
Yes, the Arcade/Basic 360 is cheap, but you get fuck all with it. No Hard Drive, which is important now for most people (especially online players and people who want to download films, like that HDi thing they were on about). The RROD (3 red lights) on the 360 happens a lot less on the newer ones because they updated the chipset inside. By now they should all be running on the newest chipset called Falcon.
Price:
Premium 360: £200
Elite 360: £260
PS3: £299
BUT
X-Box Live is £35 a year, PS3s is free and unless you care about gamescore and stuff like that. I've not actually played on Live so I can't say whether it's worth it or not yet. But over the course of 5 years (which this console will most likely last for, that's another £175. Plus, if you are like me and need wireless for your console to get online, that's another £60 for the wireless adapter. The costs are all for the extras. The PS3 comes with this built in, so it works out cheaper in the end. Although the games are a little more costly (about £10 more). The PS3 online stuff works fine whenever I play round my mate's house. Some is a little basic (like missing the better functions) but it's nothing major really.
People also say about the PS3 being hard to program for and graphics are better on the 360...well GTA looks better on the PS3. Once people get used to making games for the PS3, the quality will shine through. I've been saying that from day one, because that's what happened with the PS2. Also, graphics are graphics, but it's gameplay that makes games good. Stuff like physics (which the Cell processor is better at) help towards making the game more fun.
The games.
360 seems to have a different style of games to the PS3, I guess more arcade-y than the PS3, which seems to have more serious games in general.

It probably shows that I am more biassed towards the PS3, but that's because I sat back and waited before jumping in. Also, I did have a moment of weakness and bought a 360...took it back after 2 days. Hated the controller, it felt cheap to me. Also, back then I had one with an old chipset and it heated up VERY quickly.

There are a lot of fanboys on here so try ignore must of these comments, I own both consoles so i can break it down pretty unbias.
XBOX 360
PROS
GAMES
Exclusive games like Gears of war, Halo + Bioshock (bioshock is being devloped for ps3 as we speak but for now it is exclusive). In the past, big developers like EA have been using the X Box 360 as the lead development platform, this is due to the ease of the coding, they then will port the game over to PS3 ending up with a slightly inferior product. So if you are looking to buy a lot of old releases then x box is for you. Now the PS3 is being used for lead developing because it is much easier to port from PS3 to 360, allowing the games to be much closer in quality.
ONLINE
360 has a better quality online due to more secure servers. A lot of PS3 developers use external servers instead of using sony's so it is inferior, not by far but its there. The gap is closing but there is a difference.
COST
The main system is a lot cheaper on average under £200. This is due to the cost of production and hardware being a lot cheaper than the PS3.
CONS
GAMES
There are very few quality exclusives being developed on the 360 when compared to the PS3 catalogue. Also, the 360 still uses DVD9 which is 15gb and at maximum capacity (dual layer) can reach up to 30gb.
ONLINE
It costs. You must pay £40 every year to sign up and remain signed up which could get pretty costly after a few years but a lot would argue that the level of service is worth this.
COST
Even thoe the essential price is cheaper there are a lot of add-on's to think about. Wireless controllers, DVD player, Wireless aerial, Online. It can all get pretty expensive if you want the full experience.
- Also there is the all-too-common red ring of death that I was a victim of.
PLAYSTATION 3
PROS
GAMES
Exclusive games like Killzone 2, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Metal Gear Solid, Haze, Little Big Planet, Grand Turismo, Tekken... The Exclusive list is a lot longer. Now that the playstation has become leading developing platform for a lot of games, the PS3 has taken the sliiiiight edge, only noticable if compared side by side but its there (check burnout paradise and devil may cry 4 for examples). Also the PS3 uses Blu-ray discs as opposed to an upgraded DVD, this means the disc is 25gb as standard and 50gb dual layered so a lot more content can fit on one disc.
ONLINE
The playstation network (PSN) is 100% free and available from the get go with free sony games like Grand Turismo HD and what not.
COST
The price has reduced considerably and is now available between £250 - £300. Plus included in this you get the full system. And considering stand alone blu-ray players cost double this, it is value for money.
CONS
GAMES
Overall the current PS3 catalogue is smaller than the 360's. Also a lot of the earlier multi-platform titles didn't have the best port (see need for speed carbon for example).
ONLINE
The online is not as good as the 360's due to different servers and stuff. Also considering the online has only been running for a couple years it doesnt have the following XBOX Live does.
COST
If you dont want or have no interest in high definition video or online gaming then a lot of the price will be wasted on you. With the XBOX you are given an option but with the PS3 it is mandatory to get the full package. The only choice you have is the size of the hard drive. (40 or 80 but you can upgrade to any size you want).
Hope I have been helpful.

Scrib, you can't get the 80 over here, apparently Sony have no plans regarding newer models (I know someone who works for them). The backwards compatibility thing really fucks me off, upscaled PS2 games look nice as hell. Especially ones like God of War 2 and Final Fantasy XII
