lol how did i know someone was about to make a thread like this......... he is such a sick producer.

his impact on grime has been good imo. remixes. has attempted to push skepta, trim, giggs, (making tunes with them etc) into the limelight and definately got tinchy and kano alot of publicity in the mainstream with the fit but you know it remix which was sick.

but for me this tune is the one plus relatively unknown. the bassline>>>>

Whats that 1 old grime tune.

It was a remix on the flip of the streets vinyl.

had a vox clip of skinner saying " Tune's Heavy " before the drop.

Sounded like a TNT, transmission type tune.

The music had an affect on Mike Skinner, not the other way around. You come out claiming The Streets so i guess you need some street acts on your tunes. Sure the guys featured get some shine for a bit but who got signed??? Demon, Trim, Skepta, Bruza or Professor Green and Example! He just used grime to stay relevant and Giggs is the in ting with the youts at the moment, so he will use him too! Same trick Plan B and Lady Sovereign used

Mike Skinner's last album bombed and 3/4 of his audience deserted him to watch Dizzee the other day. Isn't much these days.

On one of the DVDs, I think Risky Roadz, he said that 'the streets' was never intentioned to mean that; the roads - he was referring to the streets of suburbia or something like that.

I liked him back in the day though. Garage as well.

I'm undecided, on one hand Mike Skinner sounds shit and I hate his voice, the other his first album is classic and put interest back into UK music. His beats are awesome though, no complaints- he should do more work as producer.

mate you can't just say he leeched off the scene when he has thousands at every show and festivals... touring around the world?? No 1's, Platinum selling albums etc.

if you have that why would you look to tap into a market which notoriously doesn't sell........ why not make a tune with kano when he could of gone out and done one with bloc party for example...... he loved the grime sound and dipped his finger into it. i'm not sayin he has a genuine pasion to help these guys but he definately wanted to make tunes with them and push them along.

Skinner done alot for UK rap/hip hop/grime, and just the general acceptance of a UK person spitting on a beat.

In the time of So Solid and then Skinner etc, they all pushed stuff forwards on a commercial level to where it is today IMO.

The Streets must be the most sucessful hip hop act from the UK. I love Original Pirate Material but I think he fell off from there.

Funny when people say they're The Streets biggest fans, "They're so good".

Fair enough if they say they are The Streets biggest fan, because then they are obviously not. But if its just a standard ting like they mention it, its a minor because its a common simple mistake

On a international level The streets rekindled the interest in urban uk music. You never know, but it might be true that no streets - no international sucess for dizzee - no overseas sales for kano - less money in grime - less grime. But you never know.
