View Full Version : Andy Gray

This guy should be a manager I swear. He's got all the answers. Rotation, leaving people back for corners, team selection, he seems to know everything we should do and whats going wrong.

We should just sack Benitez and bring in Andy Gray, he'll win us the league.

The more I watch the more I hate them.

They've helped nearly 10 managers get sacked this season, if they are so good, why not manage a team and win some trophies and go down as a legend.

Gray gets on my tits as well, but not as much as McMananamamanam and that arse-biscuit of a former England manager who were on Setanta last night.

I've heard it a few times from them already this year, but it still never fails to piss me off. The two of them sitting back in their studio chairs saying that managers like Martin O'Neill are under 'no pressure'. That's right - just like you were under no pressure to make Middlesboro a better side? You smug prick!

Co-signed. When England are on it's like watching the Sky Fanzone.

But then again, I am biased, watching Ian Wright play for Celtic (with grown men doing the Chicken Tonite dance round about me) is one of my lowest moments as a supporter.

I forgot to say - I hate Mark Lawrenson even more. 39 caps for Eire - still talks about England as 'we'. And he's never got feck all good to say about the game, even though he makes a good living out of it.

And finally - he's got the cheek to talk about managers and tactics when his time as Peterboro boss was a complete failure and he was defensive coach at Newcastle during one of their least succesful periods.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest there.

Lawro's "jokes" make me wanna punch the prick.

Slightly off topic, but the commentator Ian Drury is even more fucking annoying. Smug cunt that's never happier than when his jaws going up and down like a pez dispenser and he's listening to himself use some obscure poetry/literature to describe the play in what's obviously a preplanned way. Complete cunt.

gray as a pundit can break down a game of football like no one else on tv, everyone else just states the obvious but with gray he can point something out in a game that i would never have clocked otherwise thats why he's number one pundit.

as for what he's like as a man, i couldnt give a fuck tbh

and i always i hear people talking about "if he knows so much why doesn't he manage?" im sorry thats bollox. Being a manager is a whole different ball game, maybe he has no man management skills and couldn't command a squad of players but you cant deny he knows his football.

Fuck the MOTD team they hate Arsenal and make it bait. Some days they don't even analyse them. Always give them 2 minute highlights.

Oh Andy Gray knows his football but he has a preference as to how to play the game and comments negatively on other ideals regardless of their success.

Changed my opinion over him and Keys after they dedicated their show to educating over Hillsborough before the debate in Parliament

Everything he preached was backed up by numerous clips taken from various matches. I agreed with him in regards to Liverpool's zonal marking.

Everything he preached was backed up by numerous clips taken from various matches. I agreed with him in regards to Liverpool's zonal marking.

Despite the fact that we had one of the best defensive records in the league under it then, with Pepe Reina winning three golden gloves in a row for most clean sheets. He never liked Zonal Marking and never will. No form of marking is infallible - the one time you do concede from a corner and it will happen - then clearly there will be "numerous clips to back it up".

Rotation was another - now everyone does it - what say you to this pearl of wisdom?

It shouldn't be about which method is best and him preferring them and that's why he was always a shite commentator, because he has things he always says which aren't always true and it makes random football fans bang on about them in the pub. Starting with "there should always be a man on the post" - well sometimes there shouldn't.

There are loads more other than zonal marking but I haven't got the time or the patience and fortunately unless I turn on TalkSport I haven't got to listen to him.

Oh by the way, we did Man Marking immediately under Roy, we fell into the relegation zone with most of the same squad.

Andy Gray was and will probably remain to be the best football pundit I've heard in my lifetime. Sunday football doesn't feel right without him and Martin Tyler together. Gary Neville is good though but he still sounds like a defender lol. You can hear him get frustrated when he's watching some teams.

Fuck the MOTD team they hate Arsenal and make it bait. Some days they don't even analyse them. Always give them 2 minute highlights.

It's ridiculous tbh. They got me annoyed last week. How can a 4-0 victory be one of the last highlights?

Hij

Andy Gray was and will probably remain to be the best football pundit I've heard in my lifetime.

Please, listen to more.

If you mean best in terms of adding to the atmosphere of the game - or having more enthusiasm - then actually your probably right.

There are much better for considered football debate though. Gray often comes out with things, repeats them that aren't even in the rulebook lol

Just a side thought, but is there even a team in the top 6 that don't think the media is against their team?
I know a few don't wanna see Spurs do well, Tony Gale dissed our title chances during the Bolton game and that cunt Thompson's done the same, but generally I don't find it to be a widespread thing, Sky is usually pretty neutral tbh.

EA
10th December '11, 01:15 AM
I definitely meant he's te best in terms of atmosphere. Maybe my opinion isn't a broad one because I've been watching football on Sky for as long as I can remember but I think he has a presence that can't be replicated.

Correct. Everyone thinks the media are against them.

I think the media are just cunts in general though. Headlines which say one thing, the article underneath saying another.

I didn't realise till recently that sports editors can push a guy on a story and if it doesn't include the bias they want, they get them to re-write it

I can't argue with that- he's ideal for that, which is what Sky is, a football experience with a man to guide you through. Infact, I agree he's one of the best for that.

More often than not I watch with only crowd noise if possible - when it first came out the noise of the pitch was always a second ahead of the football so it was shit but its better now - not been able to use it this season as I'm at Uni.

I like crowd noise on because it allows you to make your own decisions. If we are honest, in a neutral game we don't really care about - our own views can be influenced by a commentator or tv channel that constantly refer to what they think was right.

Try it once lads, watch a game and then see if something you though was innocuous gets replayed again and again (and then you know on the replay they'll be pointing something out as its the same picture, just no commentary)

Could argue that the negative press actually helps a team, gives their manager suttin to show their players and say "look what those cunts think of us, lets show em wrong" rather than "everyone thinks we're doing great, keep it up". Hence why I like seein ignorants like Tony Gale write us off for PL.
