View Full Version : Grime's Hayday

RIP Jakey
16th March '08, 03:30 PM
I didn't really get into grime fully until about 2 or 3 years ago and for me its taken over my interest in Hip Hop by a lot. But because I didn't get into grime until recently I feel as though I have missed out on the era when grime was properly grime not a hip hop hybrid. When I see people like Demos (and others) talking about the old grime beats with such passion I'm gutted that I missed that stuff.

So down to the point of this. I doubt the artists are making money from these tunes anymore so could we have a little upload of older tunes so peole like me can hear the stuff that made grime GRIME! (It's down to Hij, I'll understand if you don't want this sort of thread)

But at least could someone point me in the direction of some of the old stuff still available to buy please?

Lewi White feat. Ears - New Era

http://download.yousendit.com/A77219493B4E7A92

Thought it would be interesting to see what people have to say about this, seeing as everyone was saying how he has gone downhill. He goes on sick on this. Lewi White merked it, 4 years ago, and he is still making that Grimey shit nowdays Top 5 producer definetly

P Money - So Right Now

http://download.yousendit.com/7F7B4303077A9598

Not from the early days, but I just wanted to show people how sick P Money has been for years. Way before OG's were even thought of.

More soon come, these don't go that far back but they are interesting to listen to, bearing in mind what these two MC's are doing now

It depends largely on the production and general mentality of the scene. It will never be the same. Maniac + Bless Beats vs Alias + Oddz. Different styles, and the production carries the scene.

i think people are just sceptical because theres youngers coming, and its like people are insinuating grime is dead or something...?

Pred
16th March '08, 08:33 PM
It's not scepticism. It's Grime isn't not, or will it ever be, what it once was-ism. When a genre changes from what it was when you first got it (and to an extent the reason you got into it) then you notice things and wish the style of yesteryear remained in place.

Eric Cantona
16th March '08, 08:33 PM
All i remember was i started really getting into grime when Fire Camp & Roll Deep were beefing alot, basically around when pow came out, the only people i listend to where Roll Deep & Wiley so when i heard Air On The Roads it was sick, so this tune has been one of my favs for time, and the Wiley & Riko - Pow Back or what ever it was called was alot. Some guy at my school who i was mates with listend to grime for ages and he had sidewinder packs on tapes so he got me into it and got me into Roll Deep basically. Im only 16 now so its like i was too young to really follow it much then.

Grime fell off hard imo.

Needs to revive it self with radio etc.

The mixtape thing seems to everyone's attention and its stupid, should concentrate on singles and getting videos made for it, vinyl's pressed, getsome hype going.

RIP Jakey
16th March '08, 08:34 PM

Its not that people don't like youngers, they don't like talentless bring ins and so on. Maniac and Griminal for example get a lot of ratings on this forum.

i do it quite alot still, with the britains finest set (£5) and the sidewinder tapepacks and they are well worth my money. £3 for an hour long set isnt alot.

Just really wish Grime wouldnt be so quick to brush off its UKG roots. Even listenin to FOS (which I think is sick) its so slow and IMO has been influenced more by HH than UKG, thats not a cuss cos it clearly aint "bait hip hop" but them days when Wiley and Gods Gift would jump on a Pay as you go set were SICK.
