Show >>> Standard I disagree. Standard has loads of energy, and the beat is sick. The bars are sort of different, but not bad. I'm not really feeling JME's singing on Show.

The production is shite though. The sample is a joke.

Why has he put the whole tune up?
Anyway this is the first tune from the album that doesn't have singing in the hook.
Famous
Go On My Own
Show
All singin, I understand it's an album but nothings better than a simple raw mc hook.
Listen to Gangsta Grime and you'll know what I mean.
Edit: Just read my post back sounds over negative lol I still got high hopes for the album - just not as high as some peoples I swear people were saying it's the album to bring Grime to mainstream?

I think you've misunderstood. And it's common. A lot of people do it.
It's not the album to take grime mainstream. It's the album by someone who used to make grime, moving to the mainstream, to make mainstream music.

JME is a person. You cannot say JME is grime, as you cannot say JME isn't grime. JME makes music. Some of his music is grime. Some of it is not. From what's been shown so far, Famous? will not be grime.

Naa I'm sure I read "it's the album to bring Grime to the mainstream."
Not saying that's what you said but other people have said this. But still I have to disagree with your post about 'to make mainstream music'. I've heard a few tracks from the album and it's still Grime, only difference is that it's not Forward type Grime.

Name some JME music that aint grime then please.
JME - Famous? has 3 confirmed tracks, Go On My Own, Show & Standard and all are grime, or has The Movement completly changed everyone's view of grime now?

You know what the main problem is though? There isn't a definition for grime. So one track might be grime, and another, that sounds completely different. It's kinda weird.
And whoever wrote that quote, is seriously disillusioned. IF ... JME went on popworld and shit with tracks off the CD, I would put money on him not saying the word "grime" throughout an entire interview.

Depends. If any of those tracks enter the charts at a decent position, they will, by definition, become pop music.

16th March '08, 12:12 AM
So was Pow pop music becasue it went into the charts at an decent?
NO!
If any of these tracks did enter the charts which i highly doubt they will, it would be a grime song in the charts.
Fair enough Pow & any tracks made these days in grime are not the same but you cant say its not grime becasue it went into the chart.

Of course it was, by definition. Dictionary.com is you. Pop music = popular music.
I think they will enter the charts. JME is going the same way as Sway except has more potential to make money.

It can be grime AND pop. In theory it'd probably be pop grime.

JME has the oppurtunity to go fully mainstream, he has an extremely wide and diverse fan base. The guy is smart and will more than likely make a lot of money from this album, it probably wont be to a lot of grime fans tastes because a lot of it will be completely different to how he was a few years ago. He has changed his sound over the years to fit more into the mainstream.

Exactly. But is it still grime by classification, as that seems to be the only thing people care about?

Good tune. Nothing hugely special but it's good. And these JME tunes are grime, just not as dutty as the other cd's, but I'm sure their will be some very grimey stuff on Famous?

Yeah Pop music is short for popular music but I don't think that it means that literally anymore, Pop is just the name of the genre now. For example, there are Pop tunes that arn't popular because they're doodoo.
But I think what your saying is if the tracks entered the charts high, it would be considered by some "pop music" which yeah then I agree with you but disagree with them. Oh yeah and I think he would mention Grime a lot that's all he talks about in interviews lol like in the MTV About To Blow (no homo) feature.

Pop isnt really a genre though, it's just watered down versions of other genres. True you get one or two underground genres breaking through for a short bit of fame, but that never lasts long before the big companys come in and completely strip it down of what made it so different to generic pop.

What's Spice Girls and all them other boy/girl groups' genre called then Breathe?
People will jump off of the 'JME is shit' bandwagon now that he's bringing out the stuff he undoubtedly saved for the album, which is what I clocked ages ago.
I don't like the chorus to Show. Singing doesn't suit the content of it.
BTW you seen Sunjay's myspace comments? All from either JME & his mates within BBK and Grime or JME's myspace gash. They play Pro Evo apparently...best mates with #1 fan. LOL

Either watered down techno, dance, or rock. Sometimes it works the other way and they will change around what would be a nice peice of classical music. Pop music is a subgenre of everything else when you think about it. Because pop came after underground music (of whatever it was at the time).

well like all i can say is people need to know that , making a song in a studio, and just jumping on the mic on radio are not the same , therefore if an artist comes out with a song u should give him props, that jme's tune standard is good cuz he made a lot of scence ..
thats all i got to say
G.K.
16th March '08, 02:18 PM
I think its a big tune. and with this 'is jme grime' thing, of course he is, the bars and the beat on this tune are grime. just to quote him "deep emcee cos I spit grime daily".
This tune was on westwood anyway its not really new. and about him putting up the full track, if u listen it skips in the middle, I think its his way of tracking the tune or something so he knows whats a rip and whats not.

The tune is what it says on the tin. Standard. His lyrics aren't intriguing enough to make me listen, and neither is the beat. Yet it isn't so bad that I want to turn it off.
Its gonna be for background listening while I work.

would have been nice to hear new bars, the way they were all just chucked onto the track could mean that it could be a one-off like tune though
I still have high hopes for this album, let's face it of all the MCs in the grime scene I would say I can count the amount who could come with a decent album on one hand, and JME is easily one of them
