when you listen to mixdowns of vocals on dubstep tunes, its so much better than your average grime mix-cd.
eg - the tunes the bug did with flowdan and killa p, warrior queen, etc.
am i the only one that thinks this? or should i just accept grime for what it is? (ie rush-recorded, not much care put into it, just done as quick as possible)

to be fair, thats not everyone tho.
like, if you listen to the generals album, you can tell that was done properly.
thats how it should be done IMO.
the sound and engineering/production of that album is sick, even tho i dont like half of it.

overall the sound is very good, the way the vocals sound threw me off at first, but I think they obviously wanted it to sound like a radio set or at a rave, particularly Dee's verses. At first I thought they'd overdone it but it gels for me a lot better now. Dunno though, think in maybe 6 months or even a couple of years down the line we'll be able to see how it stands up.

Problem isnt only mixdowns, grimeproducers in general are worse at making music. This is both a problem and a bless. You can be 15 years old and make a great track in fruity without training. but it also means people might have a harder time getting in to grime. good example is maniac, heard a lot of people outside grime saying he uses bait samples, makes cheesy beats. Still when you love grime you do love maniac

yeah, a lot of grime producers, you can tell they dont have much of a clue about music lol
a lot of them are still learning and putting out stuff a bit too early.
they might come up with a good riff or 8 bar, but then when they try and vary it up and put a change in or a proper melody or something, it sounds... wrong.
thats why guys like footsie (current footsie), geeneus, scratchy, terror danjah get so much respect cos you can tell they know what theyre doing and how to make a good tune.
thats why you get dizzee saying things about dubstep like "The production’s better than most grime productions. People know what they’re doing with equipment." (http://www.dummymag.com/features/2007/06/04/dizzee-rascal/)

scratcha has some of the best mixdowns, his mixes always sound really big & clear
cos he has his own legit studio with professional equipment. lewi white has a studio, low deep has a studio, skitz beatz has a studio, target lots of people and u can tell from their beats to other people in grime theres a big difference in quality

Most of the sounds in Grime are cheap and the programming is busy, so you just get a mix full of grainy mp3ish clutter
Good drum sounds used in the first place and simple tight production = Great mix.

dubstep is a producer scene. if it is produced good then it is good in their opinion. the best production doesnt always sound the best though *plays some skream wobble music*...*turns it off*
grimes a simple scene. if the beat sounds good then fuck it.

"so much..."
I remember when dubs were on vinyl and so many were just 8 bar loops and £7-8 a pop
also even though an 8 bar loop is powerful...some just became that when a little bit of attention to composition could've made that beat more than that...many dubstep beats could be 8 bars but there not and you can hear the difference...well imo anyway

Tbh, if the beat is sick, I don't really care if its mixed down good or whatnot, aslong as it's half decent!
