Could anyone, preferably with experience in the industry explain how and roughly how much an artist gets from a store that sells there cd.
i assume, it works that the artist sells a batch of say 100 to the store and they pass them on for whatever price. However, theres talk of how the artist gets a 'bigger cut from independents', how does this work? and roughly how much of a cut do they get in comparison to the inderpendent.
I understand that this may be invasive of business for him to answer and would understand if he didnt answer, but i would like Jenai@uptown to answer this if possible (at least a little bit).

basic economics, bigger chains will buy in higher quantity & use this buying power to negotiate a cheaper price. Independents will be buying a lower quantity with less/no discount. The independents paying more = more per unit for the artist

Usually £3-4 if it's on SoR... I've known it be as cheap as £1.50 when all 1000 batch bought up front.
Almost no one will be buying stock within grime, majority done on SoR.

Thats just not true. HMV & Play have more negotiating power coz they know these artists WANT their product stocked by them, coz it adds credibility & a wider audience. So they use that, they're in the driving seat... With Independants, it's the other way round, artists are more in control.

UKRS probably treat manz nice, that's why these MC's feel no way to sell their soul to them for a quick buck. SMH

UKRS try and buy the biggest releases upfront, as long as it's the complete first 1000 batch. Otherwise they're exactly the same as the others... Maybe even worse, dont think it's just customer service they're slack with...
What does SMH mean tho fam????
