In a lot of threads it just seems theres a lot of contradiction going on.

I want them to be so raw that by me listening to them a bit of it rubs off on me, and therefore the girls in the hood will love me and flock to my bedroom.

Thats because different people want different things. Grime is the same as any other kind of music genre.

Good point, but I'm sure I have noticed a few individuals contradicting themselves too.

If I knew who that was then it might be.

The people contradicting themselves are probably just learning more about the grime genre, so their tastes are evolving.

Or they just jump on bandwagons.

No people naturally contradict themselves, it doesn't mean they don't know about something it just means they haven't made their mind up and/or are open to change.

Mister Lacey
12th March '08, 09:27 PM
In all fairness maybe I've gone about this thread wrong but it's long for people to rate someone then not rate them the next day.
People say they want Grime to blow yeah but then say they want Grime to just be about hype in a rave and nothing but road talk, that aint gonna happen.

from producers: Beats that have the grime sound/feel which drew people to the genre in the first place, ie around 140 bpm, sub bass, strong drum patterns

from emcees: less egotistical bars, some hype, spiting to the beat (rather than just spitting your bars), do radio regularly

That spitting to the beat point is a very strong one, and it's a skill that defines the artists from the MCs (if you understand my meaning by that). Spitting bars on an instrumental is totally different to hearing an instrumental and writing something for that particular tune. The same thing should go with producers though. If an MC was to write a whole song, a good producer should be able to make something that fits the lyrics.

I want to hear tunes that make me wanna dance.

I want to hear mc's with charisma, I want to buy an mcs album or mixtape because I want to be them, not because I feel sorry for them and want to support their hustle for the sake of it.

When people heard Axiom EP they knew that they had heard something special, for me it was the first time i'd heard something in grime which showcased the sounds potential.

Thing with Axiom was that it was like it was planned out, It wasn't just 9 or so tracks bunged on a CD and pushed out, it was like it was a story going through it.

That was what was good about Axiom, it has decent beats by decent producers, for once someone was able to express how diverse they were without betraying the scene.

i'd like for grime to somehow build a firm (but not really big) fan base that would support the whole scene and allow more vinyl presses...also, as some have already mentioned, better beats (like those from 2002 - 2005) would be nice...

oh yeah, and i'd like grime to become a DJ oriented genre (again)...rave oriented...the MCs too...i'd also like them to be reload oriented (haven't heard a decent reload bar in quite a some time)...no storytelling shite, just hype hype hype!

is that, um, a contradiction?

I was grime to fuck off, and old skool dark garage 2001 to come back.

I want more focus on the beats and showcasing them in the club.

I reckon Logan should do a monthly Adamantium Music night with a focus on the beats not mc’s.

Get a few other Grime dj's to showcase producers from there camp eg. Maxi dropping BBK/RDeep riddims, Scholar dropping Ruff Sqwad productions..etc
Also one dubstep dj and maybe D Double to host the night.

A big Dubstep dj will no doubt bring in some new heads and the Grime dj’s can premier the freshest grime production.

Might bring some attention back to the riddims instead of all the focus being on mc’s….and maybe lead to more demand for instrumental stuff leading to more vinyl releases etc.

There’s some amazing production coming out of the scene at the mo… Innovative and undeniably large that can stand up to all the attention some of the Dubstep tunes are getting.

Maniac beats on a sound system >>>>>

Don’t get me wrong Im 100% on the mc hype….but think the production side deserves more attention that it is currently getting.

Some people on here don't know what they want in life let alone Grime artist.

Some sort of flittering has to be applied somewhere, cause the amount of rubbish talk on here is nuts.

Rave music, no swag hip hip beats or mc'n, less violin string beats with sweet boy lyrics...wiley pisses me off when he does this, does anyone actually like them tunes?
More oldskool grime / eski beats like eskimo, dizzee rascal - go, bogeyman - smelly, Bossman - bongo eyes, youngstar - pulse 44
