Leader of PDC makes comments against Grime.
What do you think of the Grime scene?
I don’t like grime music I think it’s a load of shit, most of the mcs are fake and talk a lot of rubbish, it’s all about Street Musik UK rap.

The idea that "road" rap is in any way new is laughable. A lot of these guys, PDC, SMS, Northstar, SN1 etc have been shifting CD's in the ends for TIME. I'm not a road guy but you'd have to be seriously out of touch (like not getting on a bus, or hearing what people are playing in their cars) to not know that there has been quite an established "road" rap scene in London for ages. It's not a flash in the pan thing. It's got a lot of profile recently but it's been bubbling under the surface since 05 at least. The standards have risen a lot in the last year or two though.
A lot of the younger people who are into "urban" stuff have no idea what the difference is anyway, they will be listening to N-Dubz one minute, Giggs the next and Tinchy after that, and to them they are all the same.
Never rated Jaja Soze as a spitter though.

Nothing personal, but fam, the last thing UK roadrap is is some rebore english Mobb Deep.
For two reasons: firstly, the styles these guys take their cues from have almost nothing to do with early to mid 1990's east coast rap, and everything to do with more recent NYC swagger rap, D block, and--sonically speaking--dirty south production stee.
Secondly: I'm a fan of what I've been hearing as of late. Some of it is actually original, interesting, and on occasion--deep. That said...NOTHING that anyone in the subgenre has produced yet has come close to being as good as Mobb Deep's catalogue, nor does it have the longevity.

trust roadside geez are basically more road rap then grime now
ABM are starting to pick up heat in south, obviously Giggs and SN1, mashtown, shak corleone etc
road rap does seem to be gaining more popularity these days for sure, what people forget is a lot of man doing road rap jumped from the grime scene after it started dying out.
TBH i think grime and road rap will probably merge slightly
like i said roadside geez do nuff road rap with 031/cfr and giggs and skepta done their little collabo aswell recently

Why are people saying "road rap" like it's a separate genre though?

south is where the heat is in terms of that, up north we don't have nowhere near as many, north star are easily the most prominent but don't get much ratings for their music apart from spray, g money from WG mob does his ting and shankstarz are doing their ting aswell

Can't even listen to road rap. When grime first started (hate to sound like an old man but I was there from day) all the UK hip hop people were real bitchy about it and said that it was shit and that people in Grime couldn't spit (to be fair alot of them couldn't) and there was a bit off a beef between the UK hip hop v Grime ppl.
All the hip hop goons used to say that Grime wouldn't last more than one summer.

Road Rap describes it well...
To just call it UK Hip Hop suggests sumfink diffrent...
Rememba UK Hip Hop's bin going on since da late 80's... but its completely diffrent to Road Rap
UK Hip Hop= Klashnekoff, Taskforce, Skinnyman, Rodney P, Braintax....
Road Rap= Giggz (SN1), PDC, Mashtown, Joe Black, Youngspray (Northstar)

But Jaja is swag so whys he talking, hes yankee flow is awful

ders alot of talented spitters in road rap but after a while it gets depressing

Nature of delivery, the Dirty South/D-Block/Heatmakers influenced beats, the fuckin workrate.
The fact that it's basically made for the car as opposed to being backpacker headphone music is a very clear distinction as well.
And the content is a BIG factor. It's our version of "Coke"/"Trap" rap, but inevitably a lot darker and harder because that's how our music is.

Yeah, stick "UK" on something and it tends to be different to what the US puts out. It's always the way.
But slackk I think you're just proved my point. They're on Hip Hop beats, regardless of what direction they lean towards musically. People don't make a new sub-genre for different styles of Grime. It's just a UK version of what Americans do anyway. It's another side of UK Hip Hop.
Same with Dubstep too, there's a lot of different sides to that.

Completely, but that's not a negative thing- some of the music coming out of this "microscene" is brilliant, very little out of grime is at the moment, and that's my point.
Also, you know as much as I do exactly what UKHH as a term refers to- the exact crowd, the "conscious" lyrics, even the tempo of 90% of the music- and as such people use the term road rap to differentiate.
People who listen to it can make very clear distinctions.

It's as simple as this: New sounds/styles arise, and the listening population comes up with new terms to describe them.
What the fuck is the problem?
When you've got a producer like Boom who in my mind, is begining to build his own sound, and you've got MC's revocalling tunes like Banger riddim and Gunshot Riddim, i think it's safe to say that there is something emerging with some distinction from what has come before in UK Hip-hop.

its funny how you call it 'road rap' lol. Grime scene is full up of a lot of neeks though. some bait fakes, the grime scene even sometimes makes it acceptable to be a fake.
If your can relate to the uk rap scene then you'd enjoy it more time, if you can't more time you won't. just depends on the individual listening.
But in my opinion, the uk rap scene is much healthier than its ever been. They're doing better than grime right now anyway. Theres at least like 2 releases every month from artists. If not then DJs/Record labels put out mixtapes every so often. Alot of hood videoss aswell.

grime has a very different sound to hip hop.
just cos they both involve spittin as opposed to singing.
theyre as different as indie/rock is to heavy metal.
what would you describe roadside geez as then?
grime or road rap? because they definetly cross both borders,
i said before in england we always renaming things trying to pidgeon hole things because everyone is so precious about their favourite music they got to distance themselves from stuff they don't like,
road rap is obviously hip hop but tradtional uk hip hop heads hate it cos they not as technical as klashnekoff and jehst etc, that's why we get so many sub genres.
The funny thing is for grime fans who hate it so much is i would say grime and "road rap as it is termed are merging closer then ever,
Roadside Geez are a good example and if you look at most mcs from grime these days they quick to say im not just a grime mc im an artist and hence make mixtapes half full of road rap,
Basically traidional uk hip hop heads hate these breed or rappers, while grime becomes much less like the grime of old and slowly more hip hop like and you create an underground scene, you already have loads of mcs who cross the borders anyway
