Has this been thought about? These are both things that the users themselves could help to contribute to and gives all these downloaders some sort of use to the scene

Also it helps establish GRIME-WHATEVER as a foothold in the scene, and maybe eventually even a trademark/respected grime outlet. More control in intelligent minds to help establish grime further as a more professional business. Admins?

I got an empty server i might look into GrimeReviews.co.uk or something, get some people on there to contribute, post blogs up etc, and there is already GrimeLyrics lol.

DaBlackAlbino
9th March '08, 02:13 PM
Yeah i've clocked grimelyrics, it's not good; I meant an actual community contributing lyrics site of the same sort of concept.

Grime Reviews are very popular in the forum from what I've seen; definitely a good idea to have; i'd like to take part in that (flex those literacy skills loool) could possibly help sell CDs as well. :)

Steez
9th March '08, 02:20 PM
If you had GrimeReviews set up so a set few proper journos submitted their opinions and scores. Then you had the user opinions, it would be sick.

Like if you went on to check a CD and it said HyperFrank says 8/10 but the public voted 2.2/10 from 79 votes ... you'd think twice about copping it.

If you THEN, posted clips of every album track or low quality rips so you could listen to it and get a feel for it, that would be dope.

And even FURTHER STILL, put a buy it now link to every shop that had it in stock, so I could cop it straight off if I wanted, that would be super dope.

Garybouba
9th March '08, 02:22 PM
If i was to set up GrimeReviews, would people here like to contribute? Put ads up advertising new releases etc, anyone interested?

I got a dedicated server, i might have to sort something out, big idea, anyone interested in helping out?

That's the start of a monopoly still. You need the independance for it to work.

Garybouba
9th March '08, 03:24 PM
I was thinking, not so many professional reviews, but reviews from your every day grime listener, and then at the end, i or someone else who is well spoken and clued up can write up a bigger review based on the cd, and other reviews that have been written. (no brago)

Its too late now, i can throw up some promotions on there and that, not a site to make no one any money except the scene, safe to the people who have offered to help.

Wiz

I was assuming it was a suggestion on what to add to the whole GrimeForum/Pedia/etc set of sites, so I thought would be better just to keep it within what is already around or planned.

I see what you were saying still BUT

I think it would work better if it was a separate site, and at the bottom of each page it had a link to EVERY shop that had the product so people could make the choice.

Putting the reviews on the actual page of the GrimeStore site would be swaying people to buy it from there, which imo is good business sense, but dodgy nonetheless.

Steez

I see what you're saying there.
So even if it did add to the network already created, a standalone site would imo be fairer.

You could also post up flyers for raves on it and have reviews of previous raves eg. the Dirty Canvases so people know if it's a good night or not etc.

..no one can be arsed to review every grime release professionally..

I and a set few others I know will, it will take time to get a big archive together but it's definitely worth looking into, allow the negativity...

I'm up for working on this with dubstepper and I should be able to get some backing from the admins into working this.

Yes, grimestore is in the works but wait for that to be done because? the more utilities we have for grime available; the better, grimereviews doesnt just have to be a utility for grime fans but it can serve as a tool for mc's and producers EG: what was wrong with their release (bad choice of beat, badly produced beat; choice of style or whatever comes back in the reviews)

Grimestore is a partnership between Hij + UPTOWN, they don't have to neccessarily work on this with us until/unless they want to; though as it's there brand "GRIME-WHATEVER" i think giving them access to it and making them part of the idea (if they approve of integrating it) is ethical, I (and I'm sure Dubstepper) don't want to steal anybodies name.

If you wanna get even madder on the ideas you could have uptown changing their review feature they have on the store (which actually never has a review for the CD) to link to a grimereviews review as part of the whole partnership/affiliation thing which would definitely give UPTOWN an edge over UKRECORDSHOP - which is a good thing because UKRS r swag on delivery.

Dubstepper you got msn? PM me :)

I Would be interested in this as im already writing MixCD reviews for a Magazine at college.

It obviously needs a lot more planning though also. Would it just be the MixCDs the reviewers buy? if so then i think a lot of stuff would be missing from the site, and if reviewers are getting no P out of it, i cant see them wanting to go and have to put P into mixcds that they arent all that interested in, just for the reviews sake.

Thats a minors though. Id Be very interested though, seeing as im already doing it :P

A lot of stores sell the same cd's so to make a little money you could get stores to pay you money on a pay per click basis or only allow certain stores to advertise for a premium.

I think its a massive idea and the idea of the listeners doing the reviews with a person of higher standing doing a final write up at the end is brilliant.

Yea, I thought that me, or someone else, could make clips of the mixtapes, in one mp3 file, like the whole mixtape clipped down into one 5 minute "showreel" so people can hear themselves weather they like it or not if there not too keen on written reviews.

You could also do something like having to log in to put a review up, everyone would have their own profile and over time the average listener would have mixtapes that they review as good brought because people trust their opinion due to reviews they gave in the past, or vice versa with bad reviews.

Just a thought.

nah, i reckon it should be a small group of reviewers who know how to write a decent, unbiased review. Otherwise it'll end up like a review thread on here which defeats the object

You would have to find a group that WOULD give an unbiased review and a lot of the people that post on either here or rewind seem to sway towards certain groups rather than others. At least the listener could give their views and someone could write the final review which I think will make the reviews more fair.

Come on now you no what I'm getting at don't you. Anyway a site that people can come and drop an opinion on artists music they like would make a more sctive site then one were only a select few can contribute, people love having their say, just look at this place.

kl fam. What u got in terms of graphics? A group of reviewers is a good idea. snippets of mixtapes is good (something lyk the sample box at 7digital i think). Then on the front page have a list of the current top grime CDs and then the all time (as voted).

I think that's the best way forward. When people by music off amazon, they pay attention to the reviews of everyone on there. If 30 our of 40 people are rating a CD at 4 stars and above then you know you aren't in for any shock disappointment.

How about this?

-Group of 5-10 Reviewers work like an official team for the site. This Group writes full reviews following a strict policy. (bias is irrelevant. Carter for instance would be welcome to review Non stop Working vol.2)

- When a MixCD is released, as many of these write a review as possible. All of These should be Accessible under an official team banner

-Either, one of the team who hasnt reviewed the mixCD (or heard it preferably), OR, the some other special summary guy, Then Writes a Summary of what the Reviewers said, being careful to only mention things said in the Official reviews.
(This would be the first thing a viewer should see when he clicks on a mix cd. With a link to the reviews highlighted elsewhere.)

-On top of this, seperate user reviews/ratings should be available, but seperate from the main teams.

This way you get access to semi-proffessional quality reviews, a shortened summation of multiple views (to eliminate a bit of bias, and for lazy f*ckers)
And the view of the majority.

Sounds like a lot of work though :/

You write an unbiased review by highlighting the good and bad points of something and avoid the use of persuasive language. :) Not hard if you know what your doing u jus allow your opinion while you write and focus on the facts.

Reviews can possibly contain opinions but don't need to (we'll talk about this)

Is not on one persons opinion, everyobne gets a say in what they think of the mixtapes, anyone can add their reviews up, and at the end there will be a few dedicated reviewers who are well spoke, and knowwhat their on about who wil be reviewing it as well.

There will be hopefully showreels of the mixtapes so people can hear the mixtape in 5 mins chopped up, so they know what there getting.

Its going to be affiliated with GrimeForum, GrimePedia and GrimeShop, maybe a few more affiliations if people want are willing.

I have spoke to a few certain guys and they have said how they can help promote the site, etc, artists can go there, and up showreels, clips etc, to be reviewed, or even full tracks for private use of the site, they will be reveiwed by a number of the dedicated site reveiwers.

If this site got cd's before they got released that would mean that they could get reviewed and then people could put their cd's up for pre-order with shops, that would mean that people would order cd's because of good reviews and it would make them make alittle more money than if it just gets put straight out and the same day it gets bootlegged, see what I mean??
