Everyones got a favourite little clip from a set, or a whatever for the last year but having had it on repeat today, I have to say my favourite little spray session isn't even from a proper set in the last year/year and a half.
On the second Grimes Not Dead, it leaves Little Dee/Chipmunk and Ice Kid and flicks over to Chipmunk, Random Impulse, Dimples, Snoopy and then Rinse while they spray bars over 'Through the Moon' by Nocturnal for a whole ten minutes. The quality feels better than a set sometimes because the microphone at Rinse sounds like it needs to be replaced and the hype is a lot and all of them just sound so hungry even if all the bars aint the most lyrical. The beat is so on point in my opinion that it doesn't even get boring for the whole time they are spraying.
This for me is where the Grimes Not Dead had an edge, the visual (even though I have the audio rip for my phone) of various artists spitting, quickly uploaded to a podcast is a brilliant selling point and popular. Since they branched out and did Radio Sets, Ayia Napa, Wiley's launch party, it simply weren't the same.
Grime's Not Dead, has/had the potential to be a massively downloaded, once monthly, or once every 2 months video podcast, showcasing different MC's vocalling over new and exciting beats- If Independance hadn't shut down when I ordered, Nocturnal would have gained another sale just from this podcast because it opened my eyes (or ears :D) to a beat I hadn't heard before.
Its been ages since the last one. Y3Media need to bring another one soon, and stick with the original format for the first 2, because it has the potential to be a brilliant way to showcase Grime, what a par that the one that made into a magazine wasn't one of the first 2 formats.
