So it is essentialy new missions but it is a complete story, which could have totally different chracters, radio stations, vechiles etc but still uses the Libery City background. There isn't just one of these but two.

The April issue of Spain's PSM magazine includes a new preview of GTA IV, which covers the game's multiplayer modes, all 12 of them, in great detail. The most significant development is that the details we posted back in February all turned out to be true.

GTA IV will support sixteen players simultaneously on both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network and many of the twelve included game modes are playable individually or as part of a team. The modes are: Deathmatch, Mafia Work, Race, GTA Race, Cops 'n' Crooks, Hangman's Noose, Deal Breaker, Turf War, Car Jack City, Bomb Da Base I, Bomb Da Base II, Free Roam

The game host determines the rules of the game prior to it starting, with options for weapons, number of pedestrians, traffic level and police intervention being some of many available.
Players can choose a variety of customizable characters before the game begins on a map which is said to be the same as the single player version.
In the race modes, the host can determine how many laps to undertake and players can shoot and throw grenades from the car. GTA Race is a similar mode, with the added twist that players have the ability to steal opponents cars.
Cops 'n' Crooks splits players into two teams - the cops and the crooks. Cops can see the location of the crooks on the radar and must hunt them down. Crooks don't have the luxury of knowing their rivals' location.
The Mafia Work modes involve assassinations, with one player being earmarked as the target and the rest of the players in the game racing to kill them first.
Hangman's Noose provides a link between the single and multiplayer modes by allowing players to undertake a cooperative mission from the single player mode where a mobster must be escorted and kept alive against the attacks from the pursuing police.

I'm actally kinda speechless, I just watched the trailer frame by frame and it's perfect! The graphics are amazing, the whole vibe and atmosphere is awesome!

If you are looking for an excuse to by a HD TV GTA this has got to be the one it's gonna look stunning.

If you lock and start shooting it's aims at the torso, but if you flick the RS up it's aims for the head. Resaulting in more deadly shots.

It depends on R" it's upto them, most places like IGN and gamespot will get their copies next week sometime, so they can start writing the reviews. But with San Andreas the review wasn't released untill the game was out in shops.

To be hosnest I think this will be the case again, given the amount of info that is currently out... not alot, they are keeping this game wrapped up very tight. So letting a review out a couple of days before it drops may not be on the agenda.

But if does it would be a day before, thats a guess. Just keep an eye for the shitty fake reviews, personally I'm gonna air all reviews, I know this is game is gonna be totally FUCKED!!

IGN hands on multiplayer roundtable

- Even with 8 players online the game is still polished to a high standard.

- One downfall could be that you may find yourself getting lost, as the map is
so large.

- Re-spawn drops you off at the edge of a gunfight, but you have a chance to go and tool up or get straight back to the action. This can give you time to run up to a top of a building and attack from there.

- The mini map on screen is optional and gives you a great idea where your team is and the eneimies without telling them exactly where they are.

- Medpacks and weapons hidden all over the city.

- One gametype is focused on you stealing money from dead bodies, but grabbing the money poses the risk of yourself dieing.

- If you have a pistol and another guy has a machine gun, if you are good enough to adjust the aim with the pistol it is still possible to kill him with a headshot.

- Communication is essential during team games.

- Wanted levels can come into effect whilst an online game is underway (probably optional).

- The mobile phone is used to get in touch with you and your team with details of the mission, as it does to your enemy also.

- Hitting a car full of people with a rocket counts as four kills, you can also take out tires or just kill the driver.

- "It encourages people to form gangs" BADMAN BUSINESS!!!!!

- If your just sat in the back seat you can shout obscenties to people that pass you by.

- GPS is still in multiplayer when in a car, all cars handle differently.

- "The team Mafia missions were insane. One of our guys was bombing it round on a dirt bike, completing missions like crazy, while I and another guy cruised the streets looking for you lot, to cut you off at the pass with a rocket launcher up your exhaust pipe".

- "I waited by the pick-up point for the other team to arrive. And then I waited some more. Our team won that round while all I did was stare out at the docks. In another Mafia mission, which was really close, we had just successfully escorted our man to the waypoint, but just as he was getting into the boat to escape he got shot in the face".

- Races can involve weapons, dropping gremades out of a window.

- You can jump out of the car mid race.

- If your in a bike race and you lose your bike then you can swap to a car and visa versa.

- All helicopters vary also as well, interms as controlling them, some feel heavier.

- Helicopters can fall apart, but are not overly fragile.

- It's upto you and your team how you go about completing the missions.

- Missions are not always against other players, they can be against AI as well. Ideal for people on your friends list.

- "Another guy and I were circling the van in two helicopters, shooting at the SWAT choppers that kept piling in and taking out the road blocks. The sky was swarming in the end - there were a dozen or so choppers on your tail! Thankfully their focus was you rather than me"

- When your in a heli the police will attack from above and below.

- co-op mission have alot of replay value.

We talk to Rob Taylor from Xbox World, the first games writer to complete GTA IV

You're the first games writer to have finished GTA IV, how does that feel?
Pretty darn sweet to be honest, I allowed myself a quick smug grin when the Rockstar guys told me! It's funny; I didn't actually really get to play as much as – say – the Benelux journos we met while up in Chelsea (we were based in Rockstar's actual offices and I think I racked up 25 hours at the final count, while they were ensconced in their hotel rooms playing up to 11 hours a day!) and I also had to write down some fairly comprehensive tips for the first batch of missions so actually I got off to a slow start.
On day two though, I flew through a major batch of the story missions without messing up once and then on the final day a Rockstar PR sidled up to me pretty late on while I was swearing my head off at getting stuck during a mission called 'A D*** B*** S**** C***' (edited to avoid spoiler) and said "Keep pushing on, you're actually nearly there. The missions are meant to be tough near the end!". It's true; the final couple of missions are rock, but after a couple of retries I finally made the breakthrough. And boy did I feel relieved; to have missed out that late on after all that, ahem...
'hard work' would have been hard to take.

How hard has it been to keep it all a secret?
Well, I've been threatened with physical violence more than a few times by mag colleagues after my constant stream of GTA enthusiasm threatened to get a bit too spoiler-intensive! Generally though, it'd be a shame to ruin the surprises for anyone else; GTA IV single player simply has to be played on your lonesome to be fully appreciate it for what it is: a true milestone in videogames. Likewise, my review in Xbox World 360 (out Wednesday 23rd April) talks more in general terms rather than getting into specifics... I can tell people why they have to buy this game, but I'd rather not tell them everything that transpires while doing so.

How did it all pan out then? Where did you play it?
So we got the call from Rockstar to come up on the March 26 and play for three straight days in a row – including a Saturday! We'd usually kick off at 9 or 10ish in the moring, play until 8 or 9 at night, then go eat, then crash before getting up the next morning and do it all over again. Sat in front of a 60" LCD screen in a dark room for nigh on 30 hours – now that's hardcore! Every GTA fan's dream though, huh?

How hard did you find it, playing it under so much pressure? Did you die a lot?
Definitely. It's funny, I actually had another colleague in the room with me, who also got real close to finishing. We were always comparing stats though, and I think I'd died 40-odd more times than he had by the end of the game. And failed, like, 50 missions! So I think in my rush to get through the game my skills let me down once or twice(!) The pressure to plough through as much as humanly possible did get irritating at times – especially when you get stuck on a certain mission – but you want to soak in as much atmosphere for your readers, cover as much ground as possible... all while taking over 4000 words worth of notes on a nearby laptop! It was the ultimate mix of fun and high pressure.

How different is the game from the others?
It's certainly tighter, both in terms of the way Liberty city is structured and the way in which the narrative feels more movie-like than before. Otherwise, everything feels as if it's been given the next-gen treatment; in particular the driving and shooting are light years ahead of past GTAs. Overall, it's a stratospheric leap forward, beyond anything I'd imagined.

Was the game everything you expected? Or are there some surprises?
That's a tricky question. It certainly exceeded my expectations, while there are so many small, chucklesome Easter Egg-style surprises that you're constantly shaking your head at just how savvy a developer Rockstar really is – light years ahead of its contemporaries. Again though, it's hard to be specific without venturing into the spoiler region... sorry!

In terms of the time it takes to finish, how does it compare with others in the series?
That's a hard question to answer really. I finished the story mode in 24* [see below for update] hours, without skipping cut scenes, but I literally blitzed through and hardly took on any side missions. If I was to play it again (which I will be, right on launch day!) I'd say to wrap up the story will take at least 40 hours at a normal pace, plus another – say, 25? – to wrap up the remainder of the missions.[See update below]. In truth though, you could be paving the streets of Liberty City in a year's time and still not have discovered everything. Plus, if you're a 360 owner, there's the promise of downloadable content to come... My advice is: just kick back, take your time and breathe every fresh sight and sound in, don't simply rush through just to finish it before your mates. I wish I'd had that option!

How many "Woooaah, Jesus that's amazing!" moments did you have?
Without giving away any spoilers; lots! I think, overall though, it'll be three overall things that entrance GTA fans like never before. The City is one, with a lighting engine that has to be seen to be believed, plus the incredible dialogue and characterisation is genuinely Oscar-worthy and Niko Bellic is absolutely the most amazing protagonist in any game I've ever played. Finally, multiplayer of course!

Are the GTA fans going to happy with the new game, do you think?
Obviously, you can't make everyone happy all of the time but if any GTA fans aren't happy with IV, they need to take a good long look at themselves. Seriously though, this game is going to make a lot of people very happy.

Did you get a chance to play much multiplayer? Did you get your ass kicked by the Rockstar guys?
Yes, Xbox World 360 actually snagged a whole day playing against Rockstar PRs and devs in a exclusive feature a month or so back. Rather than simply go with the whole Deathmatch and Capture the Flag stuff, they've genuinely taken their time creating some amazing new modes that'll do the business online. Mafiya (a chaotic, mission based affair), Cops 'n' Crooks (one team try to capture the other) and Hangman's Noose (players team up to take an army of AI SWAT troops) were our personal faves...

If you had to pick a favourite out of all the games in the series now which one would it be?
GTA IV. By a country mile. It craps on all the others – even the mighty Vice City – from a height equivalent to the Statue of Happiness. Believe me, GTA IV is even better than the hype suggests!

Best to see how things go when the game is out and see how many topics are created and what people wanna talk about, because this place is gonna be busy. But to be honest I think this whole section will be taken over by GTA, which is why it is here I guess so maybe just stick with this.

I think we will have some sticked threads for, help on missions, organising games and info on the clans etc

Try play or amazon, may even get it a day earlier. If you don't then someone will have a copy, game, hmv, zavi, woolworths, wh-smith, etc.
