Ive been thinking, i reckon it would b far better to have a organised leak of a release at a low bitrate (also maybe a bit chopped off or loose a verse maybe) and promote that everywhere before the proper leakers get a chance. By flooding the forums, torrents and anywhere else with this 'poor' quality copy, it means any other version would get less attention when it was released.

WTF??

People would just rip the CD and have high quality version just like they do now

you mean like have all the big tracks for download before the release in a low quality mp3, like say a radio rip...

I only listen to radio rips people up on blogs and forums.

I haven't bought a grime CD since Run the Roads 2/

they usually do a clean rip leak

Blimey
6th March '08, 11:53 PM
But if u spammed all the locations the proper rippers normally use and use theyre tags, people would think it was the rip. and if they kept downloadin the crap rip eventually they'd say fuck it, some would go without and others might buy.

I really don't understand the motivations behind a) leaking a product b) trying to stop a product being leaked.

No one gets anything out of either.

bit of a mission imo

it would probably jus put people off grime if all they kept hearin was low quality tunes, especially wen its mainly played on kids phones aswel, its gonna make grime sound like any cheap form of music

There's two ways you deal with this problem imo.

1. The Grime scene comes down so hard on downloading it's viewed as "Homo"

2. Artist write better songs and concentrate on touring and making Grime music that will appeal to a wider audience.

it would work

i remember back in the day when i used to download of kazaa, and after about 30 seconds the song would go into a fuzz

everytime i tried to download from a different host it would be the same, which eventually led to me giving up

yer tru

but say for example we labelled it RAGEMP3 and filled it full of virus's most people wud eventually be put off by this

big movie companys did this. theres a well known movie ripper called AXXO, warner set out to "rip" there own movies with his tags and put it everywhere in torrents, the full file size and everything. you'd download it, wait 2 hours to get this new film, then open it for 30 seconds of it to be blank, then a copyright message popping up saying ur IP has been logged for downloading illegal material, cheers.

and to say grime is only a small scene, it wouldnt be that hard to pull off really.

..didnt skepta leak a fake 'Greatest Hits' with all his underground tunes on it before his album came out and delayed it leakin' for a while and at least made it a bit of a pain in the arse for downloaders..

i think that was just a compilation someone decided to put together and call greatest hits.

his album did leak though thats why it took so long to come out.

I don't think you quite got the joke Brukfoot. :)

I never saw the GH bootleg version. Was it any different to the Joseph Junior Adenuga bootleg mixtape?

The fake greatest hits was alot. It had most of the old road skepat tunes. Better then the real album in some ways.
