View Full Version : Grime djs!! What are they actually allowed to play?

Ive posted various mixes n have had em ripped down due to using tunes that either aren't released, unheard of, or simply haven't been sent directly to me by the producer. Starting to wonder though coz im hearing alot of dubstep n even grime trax being spun by few present grime dj,s on rinse n pyro n even urban. Most recent one i clocked is 'tc - wheres my money(remix)' used couple times on rinse.
Now tc is a big dubstep n drum n bass producer n i dont think he really needs/wants the extra satisfaction/promotion from any grime dj, (on any level that they're on) to be spinning it.
Anyway my style of mixing grime instros is to switch em quick but that has given the impression to people that the beats im using are rips or dud bud loops. www.myspace.com/j20smusic see for yourself. The mixes are tight considering. For example: One instro mix i posted last week had a beat by geo init called 'jengaleng'.
Few people in here had certain things to say about that but i pm'd geo on myspace n had an instant reply saying he appreciates me using his riddim in a mix.( not to mention i got the beat from one of the boooom volumes posted on the grimeforums homepage) so really what has the problem?
Im aware that atm i have been posting vdj recorded mixes, n will justify my behaviour by recording mixes using my axis cdj'z asap but the mixes im providing atm aren't swag, dont consist of unbearable clangs, n the selections are more than good. I know my tunes very well n always know what im bringing in next.
Im gonna keep posting n maybe next time who ever is responsible for removing the links could explain to me why?
Studio quality cdj recorded mixes within the next month no probz

Two issues you have addressed.
One is playing bootlegged tunes, the second is Grime DJs playing music thats not Grime.
First, playing bootlegged tunes, or tunes you have acquired without permission of the producer wont be tolerated here in mixes. I am not saying dont own them, but dont be a 'DJ' here and post mixes with tunes you haven't either paid for or DIRECTLY RECEIVED from the producer.
Secondly, in the history of Grime, Grime DJs have always thrown in other tunes that arent from this scene. Noteable tunes over the years are Sunship - Cheque One, Two, Hardhouse Banton - Sirens, and Caspas - Wheres My Money Remix. It is nothing new.
We will allow you to post your mixes when you use tunes that you have the right to own. Simple really.

Bruv jengaleng had nothing to do with it, the problem was with tunes that were either leaked/bootlegged/looped, I cant say what the problem tunes were cos I didnt hear the mix but the mod who removed the links definitely had their reasons.
Just invest in the music, hit up some producers, keep it moving and DO NOT rely on pg to fill up ur box/hd/cd collection.

Listen man, just do you. Only you know where you're getting tunes from and if you're investing in and supporting the scene. IMO removing your links is a bit extreme, but there is a total lack of respect from certain types who just download and share on MSN and make no positive contribution to the scene whatsoever. I'm not gonna act like I've never downloaded from PG or that I think it's the root of all evil, and I appreciate not everything is accessible, but you know yourself if you're investing in the scene and giving back or if you're just downloading, mixing on your computer and tryna shamelessly self promote.
To be fair, on the other side of the coin not every tune gets a release or a prompt release and all promotion is good so you can't blame the guy for downloading stuff and using it. Works both ways, it's also an issue of if you do download a leaked record, are you the type who'll buy the release to support it or contentedly just hang onto and share the leak and then talk shit about it flopped.
