Back in 2004 a little known producer stepped up from Nottingham to produce probably the most famous refix in Grimes short history. Mr SnoWman remixed Lethal B’s Forward Riddim, with the track going on to sell over 5000 copies on vinyl. A string of successful releases followed for Mr SnoWman but in* 2007 he drifted off the grime radar to put some work in behind the scenes.

Well now Mr SnoWman is back with his brand new release the “SnoWstep EP” which will be hitting iTunes, Napster and Amazon on April 27th. We caught up with SnoWman to find out where he disappeared to and what he has lined up for the future.
Its been a while since you’ve had any product out, where have you been!?
Welllllll, here there and everywhere really, ive been making music for around 10 years now, learnt to play the viola and piano in school which gave me an early start. Most people will no me for the huge remix of the “forward riddim” in 2004 which tore down sidewinder peoples choice awards with lethal b, kano, ghetto, demon, flirta and many other legendary go down in history sets. Then I guess I disappeared for a bit, I went to uni to study Creative music and tech which helped me get a lot of film and game foley work which paid well, but grimes always in my heart (keeps it cold) its what made me download Fruityloops 3.56 back in 2000 (b4 FL studio lol).
So what software or programs do you like to use?
Ive got a Pc and a Mac now so I guess I have the best of both worlds, but when I first started I was using strictly fruity with around 500 soundfonts, and a few vsts! I was a bootleg king back then I remixed anything and everything. I then advanced to using reason rewired with fruity and mixing in Cubase. Nowadays I might sample something from a hardware synth, effect process it in logic, export the slices to fruity, sequence some drums, rewire reason for a bass in thor, then export all stems to protools to mix down, it really depends on the day how I feel and what idea I want to create I use the easiest way to achieve it.
Is your music genre based? What is SnoWstep!?
When I make music now I don’t aim to create any sound or anything in particular, my one key rule I always have when producing is bounce, its got to have bounce, be that an offbeat hi hat repeating or a ¼ lfo’ed bassline that bounces. My heart beats at 140bpm. I take influences from grime, dubstep, bassline, house, funky house, dnb, techno, ambient stuff and even rock and try and incorporate many production techniques and sounds into my work.
SnoWstep is this. You can tell a snowman beat even if it doesn’t have signature sounds involved. Because its different. You wont have heard a beat like it before. That’s what I try to do anyway. Totally the opposite from bootlegging in 2000.
So what releases are in the pipeline for this year?
Obviously the EP is out on iTunes, Amazon and Napster on April the 27! Consisting of 4 unique tunes which I’ve seen crowds go crazy to and had people beg for me to send them so I thought why not get them out! What’s 69p? cheap for a banger! I Recently joined SRE (sidewinder Raw entertainment) which means you will see me at Sidewinder regularly reppin the Midlands and pushing my own sounds. I also co run a night by the coast which is solely about pushing new unsigned underground talent every two weeks called Dubnium, these guys are true to the music and hands down put on some of the best party’s I’ve ever been too.
I don’t want to say too much. Id rather just let you see what happens when I do it. But Im back now. Im here. Hello. Im going to be consistent with my releases at least and EP a month. The digital market is going to be murdered this year to say the least. But my passion for vinyl (biggup all my vinyl heads) will not cease and you should own a 4 track SnoWstep vinyl by the end of summer!
